Like the Marines, we leave no one behind!  We will gear our pace for the slowest riders.

Due to popular re-request we have scheduled 3 bicycle trips over the remainder of the summer. We have changed the day of each ride hoping to capture some of the weekend lake travelers who have not been able to ride with us before.   The three rides will all be on the Lake Wobegon Trail.  The day of the week for the rides and the start time will change from last year.  The rides will be all on Thursdays and the starting times will be an hour later, at 4:30 PM, rather than at 3:30 PM.

  • Thursday August 1 – Wobegon Trail Head starting in St. Joe at 4:30 PM
  • Thursday August 22 – Wobegon Trail-Head starting in St. Joe at 4:30 PM
  • Thursday September 5 – Wobegon Trail-Head starting in St. Joe at 4:30 PM.  Dan Steil will host the September 5 ride in my absence.

The 3 rides will be on the scenic Lake Wobegon Trail as we’ve done for the last 3 years.  We plan to start the rides at 4:30 PM giving us plenty of time to cover the 8 miles to Avon and then a short jaunt to Fisher’s Club on the shores of beautiful Middle Spunk Lake.  The ride is entirely on a bicycle trail with only occasional well-marked cross traffic and no hills.  “The road rises to meet you and the wind is always at your back”.

The ride starts from the St. Joe trailhead, just North of highway 75.  After turning North on College Avenue, the Trailhead is clearly marked and there is plenty of parking.  Water and facilities are available there and at an identical trailhead in Avon.

These are all family rides:  Feel free to bring children, grandchildren, dogs in trailers, friends and relatives.  Previous year’s rides were a great time to meet Rotarian’s grandchildren and other non-Rotarian riders.  Let’s get to know each other better.  “Camp-Followers” are welcome to meet us at Fisher’s Club for fellowship and dinner.

Logistics:  It’s 8 miles to Avon from St. Joe.  You can ride 8 miles and then return with a friend or relative by car OR you are also welcome to return with the group to the St. Joe Trailhead by bike.  By starting at 4:30 there should be plenty of time to have dinner and a return ride to St. Joe, at your leisure.

Register?  NO REGISTRATION is necessary.  Just show up.

Decorum:
  • Helmets are STRONGLY recommended; Ride Courteously and be aware of other traffic on the Trail (bicyclists and in-line skaters mainly); We won’t ride in the rain or if storms are threatening.  I’ll try to get an e-mail out with time to spare if that eventuality arises; but do follow your own intuition and don’t wait for official confirmation.
