District Governor Sharma and wife Rashmi Visits Rotary Club of Space Center Today

District 5890 Governor Sunny Sharma and his wife Rashmi will visit  us today.  We are not sure what Governor Sharma will focus on, but expect some insight on  the Rotary International  theme of "Building Communities, Bridging Continents" as well as his theme of "Building the Family of Rotary".  We will report next week about their visit.  However, for now, you can read about him in his  biographical sketch .

The McKinnie's

The McKinnie's have expressed their appreciation for the prayers, thoughts, and words of comfort regarding their son, Ty in a card to the Club members.  Also read the letter from the Shriners Hospital for Children noting the donation given by the Club in memory of their son and the McKinnie's thank you card.

September 20, 2010 Club Meeting Review

President Coney reported that our club sponsored a whole cabin of special needs kids at Camp Be An Angel.  We also gave $1000 to Centro Pastoral Social Cristo Obrero, AKA as the women's center of Ezequiel Montes in Mexico for monitors to go with CPUs that were donated for their vocational program, and presented the largest check ever written by Space Center Rotary to sponsor a synergistic lab at one of the Clear Creek Independent School District schools.

President Coney also expressed the need for urgent consideration of our support for the Shrimporee (be sure to ask him about urgency in his mother in laws adventures on the floor with the dog).  Shrimporee is only three weeks away and we have not reached our normal financial support levels.  Ticket money and auction items need to be turned in as soon as possible. Raffle ticket sales begin next week, and we have a beautiful piece of jewelry for the raffle.

John Branch introduced Randy Stone, President and Chief Operating Officer of Cimarron Software Service and a 37 year NASA veteran.  Randy shared many behind the scenes stories from the space program, and was such an entertaining speaker that you could hear the disappointment in the room when his time was up.  President Coney presented Mr. Stone with a token of appreciation and announced that there is a Shrimporee meeting tomorrow at 5:30 at the JSC Credit Union.  The meeting adjourned.

Disposal of Unused Medications
by Courtney Lindberg
Chair, Environmental Commttee

A very important issue was brought to my attention by a fellow Rotarian recently; "How do I properly dispose of unused medications?" This is a very good question.  The following article (from my favorite recycling web site www.earth911.com ) outlines how to handle not only expired or unused medications, but many other pharmaceutical items in an environmentally friendly and safe way.  You can visit the Club's environmental web site which has this article and much more environmental type information by going to the Club web site http://www.spacecenterrotary.org , look to the left side of the page under Club Links and click on Environmental Information.  You do not have to log in to do this.  However if you want to go directly to the environmental web site, click on http://www.spacecenterrotary.info/Environment.htm.
