HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

"My vision for the future of the club is to become more and more relevant to the community and more and more relevant to each other."   President David Coney

Welcome back to Rotary!  I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday Season.  My family and I had a fantastic Christmas and a very Happy New Year and I hope yours did also.  Two weeks off from Rotary felt like an eternity and I am ready and eager to see everyone again on Monday.  This is going to be a great 2011 for Space Center Rotary Club!  Half of this Rotary year is already over and I am so excited as to what we can accomplish in the second half of the year.  It is going to be a lot of fun providing service to the beneficiaries that are in our service budget.

I have said from the beginning that the three things Rotarians do best are to: raise money, spend it on meaningful service projects, and have fun doing it.  One project that is coming up soon is a hands-on clean-up, fix-up, and paint-up fun time at Hope Village.  Hope Village is one of our major beneficiaries this year and one of the things we plan to do is to improve the recreation room for the residents.  Not only will it look great when we get through, but will encourage the residents to use it much more

I am also excited about the high school scholarships, teacher of the year, new oven project, and all of the other projects in our service budget that we have yet to fund.  I am truly committed to making sure we use every cent budgeted to make a material impact on our community and the world.

We do a lot of things right in Space Center Rotary.  I am proud of our rich culture and history.  I think to understand where we are, it is important to see where we came from.  If you have not already done so, I encourage you to browse our History Web Page at http://www.spacecenterrotary.info/.  I am so proud of all the things we have done in our history and it makes me excited to be one of the people who helps decide where we are going next.

My vision for the future of the club is to become more and more relevant to the community and more and more relevant to each other.  I think one of the critical things that we can do better as a club on becoming more relevant is to improve our communications.  The flow of information is critical for the club to be successful and to help improve on this, we are in the process of improving our club web site including a new web page.  However we must keep in mind that the web site is only a tool and only the first step.  We all must work together to ensure it contains meanful and relevant information.  I would like for this web page to tell our wonderful story for outsiders as well as be an easy and convenient way to find information about what is happening in the club.

Our future is going to be bright!  I hope you all come to Rotary Monday rejuvenated after a long break and ready to have a great start to 2011.
