Stuart McClung | NASA Orion Project

Stu McClung is the Program Planning and Control Office chief of staff for the Orion program at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. In this role, McClung ensures the coordination and integration of the various Orion program offices and works to manage potential cost risks and threats. He also currently serves as point of contact for Orion program COVID response. McClung has worked in the Orion program Crew/Service Module Office since 2006 and has supported Orion in a number of leadership roles. Prior to assuming his current role in 2018, McClung completed a one-year assignment as the Orion program executive at NASA Headquarters, serving as a program representative to internal and external stakeholders. Before that, McClung was functional area manager for Orion mechanical and pyrotechnic systems, overseeing the cost and schedule coordination of over a dozen pyrotechnic systems teams. He has also been the lead for Orion production and assembly, with a focus on spacecraft engineering and supply chain management. McClung’s other leadership roles include serving as Orion Ground Test Article vehicle manager at NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans in 2010, in which he acted as a liaison to ensure proper design of the test article. In addition, McClung was Orion Production Operations Deputy Manager for Orion’s first flight test, Exploration Flight Test -1, at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida from 2013 to 2014. McClung joined NASA in 1989 in the Orbiter Project Office at Johnson Space Center. Through 2005, he served as project manager for space shuttle orbiter hardware upgrades and safety improvements, including the orbiter docking system, external airlock, and the main landing gear. In 1992, McClung spent one year at NASA Headquarters as the space shuttle orbiter liaison in the Office of Space Flight. McClung volunteers his free time with NASA’s Office of STEM Engagement, participating in speaking engagements and acting as a mentor to college students. Outside of work, he also enjoys taking part in sprint triathlons as well as woodworking. |

Happy Thanksgiving from The Rotary Club of Space Center. We will not have a meeting this week so our members can focus on family and serving others in need. Our club is participating in Operation Turkey with a goal to provide meals for 10,000 people who may not otherwise have a meal. Peace to you and for all we are grateful. |
