Kingwood Rotary Club is currently seeking students that are entering their senior year of college, or have already graduated college and are seeking their post-graduate degree, to submit applications for the $30,000 Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship/Global Grant Scholarship for the 2017-2018 Academic Year.  The deadline for Kingwood Rotary to receive applications is September 29, 2016.
 
Kingwood Rotary meets every Thursday from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Skeeter's Mesquite Grill in Kingwood.  We welcome anyone interested in the scholarship to attend a meeting so we can discuss this scholarship and answer questions.  Applicants are also invited to attend the Rotary District Foundation Seminar on Saturday, September 17th at Houston Community College - Spring Branch Campus to learn more, so contact Tommie Buscemi at 281-359-7193 or tommie5890@suddenlink.net to attend.
 
Over the past few years, Kingwood Rotary Club has sponsored two students that have been selected to receive a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship.  Thomas Mendez from Kingwood was a 2009-2010 scholarship recipient of $24,000 and spent a year abroad studying in Buenos Aires, ArgentinaDaniella Romero was a 2011-2012 scholarship recipient of $30,000 and studied abroad in Geneva, Switzerland.
 
 
This exclusive, world recognized Rotary Foundation scholarship will be awarded to a graduate-level college student with a passion for community service who intends to pursue a career in one or more of Rotary's Six Areas of Focus.  Click here for full details about the Six Areas of Focus of Policy Statement of The Rotary Foundation:

• Disease prevention and treatment
• Water and sanitation
• Maternal and child health
• Basic education and literacy

Applicants that are related to Rotarians are not eligible for this scholarship.

Kingwood Rotary will interview the applicants, and one finalist will be selected to advance to the Rotary District 5890 Interviews.
Deadline for Kingwood Rotary to submit our finalist's application to the District 5890 Scholarship Committee is October 21, 2016 and finalists must attend the mandatory interviews in Houston on November 19, 2016.
 
The qualities of a successful Global Grant Scholar applicant are:
  • Possesses excellent leadership skills and potential
  • Has a proven record of success in her/his academic field or vocation
  • Has demonstrated a personal commitment to community service
  • Has well defined and realistic goals
  • Has concrete ideas as to how she/he will make advances in her/his chosen career
  • Is sincere about maintaining a lifelong relationship with Rotary after the scholarship year
