WHAT IS ROTARY?
Started in 1905 in Chicago by four businessmen, Rotary International and is the world's oldest service organization in the world comprising of 35,200 clubs in more than 200 countries, with 1.2 million members.  Rotary lets you make a difference by being a part of the world’s largest family of givers. Our 3-word motto sums it up best:  "Service Above Self."  Rotary is about community and volunteer leaders from different cultures, and occupations in our community taking action — to enhance health, empower youth, promote peace, and improve their community.

KINGWOOD ROTARY
We are a diverse group of friends that are business and professional leaders providing humanitarian service and encouraging high ethical standards in all vocations.  Chartered during the 100th Anniversary of Rotary International, our club has the unique distinction and honor of being a "Centennial" Rotary club.  Our members are committed to effecting positive and enduring change in the lives of others, and that is exactly what we do!

OUR VALUES
Fellowship & Global Understanding, Ethics and Integrity, Diversity, Vocational Expertise, Service & Leadership

HOW DOES ONE BECOME A MEMBER OF THE ROTARY CLUB OF KINGWOOD?
Come visit us at one of our weekly dinners at The Union Kitchen in Kingwood.  Members are chosen to represent their respective businesses or professions, which are called classifications, and Rotary International limits our number of members in each classification. The classifications assure our membership includes qualified representatives from all businesses and professions throughout our area. In this way, the club strives to remain representative of the community it is committed to serving.

ATTENDANCE:
When you become a Rotarian, we ask that you try to attend at least 50% of our weekly meetings each month.  Why?  Because members get to know one another very well, we network and learn about other businesses and professions, and form strong and close relationships. Also, it helps to plan successful community service projects when members can be counted on to be at the meetings to share their ideas, and expertise.

CAN'T BE THERE EACH WEEK?
No problem...we understand and we are FLEXIBLE!  Missing a meeting isn't a problem since you can make-up by attending one of our service projects, the service project of another Rotary club, on-line at an E-Club, or visiting one of the 62 other Rotary clubs in the Houston area where you'll be welcomed and introduced like one of the family.

TRAVELING ON BUSINESS OR PLEASURE?
Rotary clubs are throughout the USA, and around the globe, so you'll be welcomed and treated like visiting family.

Rotarians are also expected to carry the ideals of Rotary outside the club into their own field of trade. You can do this by wearing your Rotary pin proudly, by displaying the Four-Way Test in your place of business and by exemplifying its principle in your everyday business dealings.

WHAT IS THE COST OF BEING A KINGWOOD ROTARIAN?
For $150 per quarter for dues (includes an optional $50 contribution to The Rotary Foundation) you are a member of the world's most recognized and honored international organization! Members are billed each quarter, in advance, for dues. Members order and pay for their own meals at The Union Kitchen so you could order an appetizer, full meal, or just enjoy a glass of wine, soda or cup of coffee since their isn't a minimum. Bills are sent out by the Club treasurer the first week of each quarter, and are payable upon receipt. Please speak with your tax adviser to see if your dues would be tax-deductible under IRS regulations.

Optional Events:  If you choose to attend various optional Rotary sponsored meetings, events, district conferences, Kingwood Rotary Club t-shirts, etc., costs for those are paid by each individual Rotarian.

MEETING INFORMATION
Every Rotary club has its own character, but there are some common elements that make Rotarians feel at home at any club worldwide. Meetings are built around a meal, which may be breakfast, lunch or dinner and usually last for about an hour to an hour and a half. The Rotary Club of Kingwood meets from 6:15 PM to 7:30 PM at The Union Kitchen (Luby's/Texas Roadhouse/Los Cucos shopping center on Hwy 59 feeder road).

Members and guests start to gather around 15 minutes before the meeting to order their food, and chat with fellow Rotarians and guests. Our meetings start with the ringing of our Rotary bell at 6:30 PM followed by the invocation, Pledge of Allegiance, the Four Way Test, a presentation by our guest speaker, our meal, then club information and announcements.

Members often bring guests, their families, prospective members or anyone interested in hearing the guest speaker. There may be Rotarians visiting from other clubs in the area, or even from around the world. The bell is rang again at 7:30 PM signaling the official end of our meeting thus allowing members that need to leave the opportunity to do so. Those members wishing to stay and visit are welcomed to do so.

We are a "family friendly" club and realize the time spent with your family is important. Please feel free to bring your spouse and children to our meetings so we can all get to know each other.

We encourage you to contact any member of the Kingwood Rotary Club for information about membership.
