The Highlands Rotary Club welcomes the 2011-2012 Youth Exchange Student.  Highlands Rotary hosted a Welcome Party  on Thursday, August 18th.  In attendance were club members, District Governor-Elect Chris Schneider, friends and members of the Interact Clubs from the Chinquapin School and Goose Creek Memorial High School.  Mariam arrived Tuesday evening after a long flight from Peralta Navarre Spain.  Mariam will start 11th grade at Goose Creek Memorial High School which she has already had the oppportunity to visit.  Eduardo Belalcazar, Interact District 5890 President, attended along with 3 other Interact Club Officers, Miguel, Lizette, and Jordan.  The five had the chance to visit, get to know each other and give Mariam some tips about the school here.

The Highlands Rotary Club is pleased to have Mariam and looks forward to the year ahead.

The Rotary Club of Highlands held its annual scholarship banquet on Monday, May 9, 2011 at the Highlands Community Center. The Club awarded $30,000 to eighteen area students. Receipients included seniors attending Goose Creek Memorial High School, The Chinquapin School in Highlands, Crosby High School and four returning college students. The scholarship committee, consisting of Highlands Rotarians, reviewed a total of 42 applications. The competition was remarkable but by scoring applications based on academics, community service, school activities, leadership and financial need, the committee was able to select eighteen very deserving students.

The Sun Shines on The Highlands Rotary Club and annual fundraiser is a huge success netting approximately $70,000 for community projects.

Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Highlands for another successful fundraiser.  Just one day before the event, unusual icy conditions kept people at home and off the roads threatening the event.  E-mails went out to let supporters know that the event was not postponed.  Although it was a cold morning to start, the sun came out and temperatures rose to a balmy 50 degrees...perfect weather for a bowl chili.  Supporters of the club came out in record numbers to show their support for the Highlands Rotary Club  The club netted approximately $70,000 for future projects thanks to sponsorships, raffle ticket sales and a record breaking live auction.
