Have Thermocouple, Will Travel: Global change affects insects on a global scale

Brent Sinclair is originally from New Zealand, where he completed his PhD in Zoology at Otago University. Following research positions in South Africa and Las Vegas, Nevada, he joined the Department of Biology at Western University, where he is now a full Professor.

Brent is an expert on insect cold tolerance physiology, and has travelled extensively for his research, including eight trips to the Antarctic and three to the Arctic, but much of his core research is here in Ontario where he has studied the overwintering biology of a range of invasive pest insects.

Brent is often consulted for television, radio, and print media stories about insects, has served as President of the Canadian Society of Zoologists and is the founding Editor-in-Chief of the academic journal Current Research in Insect Science. He is a keen hiker and skier, and covid-related travel restrictions have led him to a newfound obsession with wilderness canoeing.
