Chico is a very lovable puppy created by author Jen Dafoe who accompanies children on their very first visit to medical facilities across Ontario. Jen has had more than forty-seven surgeries herself as a youngster and armed with direction of some of the best pediatric practitioners, she has written one book about going to the dentist and is currently completing Chico’s next book about going to hospital. Anxious to replace fears with educated smiles and giggles, each child is given a book prior to his/her visit. Chico is coming to share Jen’s story and vision.
Also speaking today is Malena Martinez Gonzalez, our “inbound” Youth Exchange Student from Spain.
The Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) is a Rotary International student exchange program for students in secondary school. Since 1929, Rotary International has sent young people around the globe to experience new cultures. Currently, about 9,000 students are sponsored by Rotary clubs every year. Typically, students are sent to another country for a year-long stay, generally living with multiple host families during the year and being expected to perform daily tasks within the household as well as attend school in the host country.
We will be meeting at the London Convention Centre in Salon D, D1 on the ground floor.

The Rotary Fellowships Program is a structured program of rotary International that comprises more than 70 independent fellowships. They are independent, social groups that share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends around the world. Rotary Fellowships consist of members who share a common interest in recreational activities, sports, hobbies, or professions. These groups help expand skills, foster vocational development, and enhance the Rotary experience by exploring interests while developing connections around the world. Visit www.rotary.org/fellowships for additional resources on Rotary Fellowships
The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. The Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world.
There are as many reasons to support The Rotary Foundation as there are ways to do good in the world. Through the Every Rotarian, Every Year (EREY) initiative, your contributions of any amount to the Annual Fund or the PolioPlus campaign are the primary source of funding for Foundation programs. Every Rotarian is encouraged to participate in a Foundation project and make a personal gift to the Annual Fund every year.

Chef Recovery Luncheon Monday June 12th
At our Monday June 12th meeting we will hear the story of how one man overcame addiction to become a successful entrepreneur. A successful Executive Chef running his own catering company, Chef Recovery Catering, Jay Barnard has now launched a food line called Walleye Wings INC. in Kenora, Ont. It is hard to believe that Chef Jay (aka Chef Recovery) was once an addict who was out of control and had lost hope.
This is a joint Rotary Club-Salvation Army luncheon with proceeds going to The Rotary Club of London Foundation and the Salvation Army Withdrawal Program at the Centre of Hope. Tickets for this luncheon at the London Convention Centre are only $35 (Regular Club Fees for Rotarians and no additional ticket needed). For non Rotarians tickets are available at: https//www.eventbrit.ca/e/chef-recovery-tickets-3391492114
