Rotary News Today

August is Rotary MEMBERSHIP and EXTENSIONS MONTH
To be an effective, relevant, and vibrant group within a community, a Rotary club needs to continually admit new members and retain current ones. A club's ability to serve the community is directly related to the strength and size of its membership base. A club that stays active encourages Rotarians to remain connected to the organization.

“Each Rotarian: Reach One, Keep One”
"Each Rotarian: Reach One, Keep One," the membership slogan approved by the RI Board of Directors, is a reminder that every Rotarian is responsible for inviting new members and keeping clubs active and vibrant. It also stresses that retention is an essential component of a strong club and membership base.

Finding members
New members bring important benefits to the club, including an increased capacity to serve the community, future leadership, diversity, and fresh ideas, interests, and energy.

Keeping members
Retaining qualified members is as critical to Rotary’s long-term health and success as inducting new ones. Current members who are dedicated, active, and motivated support the effective functioning of the club and are likely to attract new Rotarians.

Our Responsibility
While our Club has an active Membership Committee, all Members of our Club are responsible for “Finding” and Keeping” members – Yes, that means you!

Rotholme Backpack Project
We have a great chance to show The Rotary Club of London members are "People of Action". Mission Services London needs help gathering backpacks and school items for the kids staying at Rotholme.

As part of the "Fill the Bus" campaign what we need from members is to:
a) Purchase and bring a backpack to Monday’s meeting (August 20)
or b) Purchase and bring school supplies to Monday’s meeting (August 20)
or c) Make a personal donation of $20, $40, $60 or $100 so we can do the shopping – advise Sandy Ronson re credit card info or bring a cheque on Monday.

Corus radio, the media sponsor of this community effort to help students of need will recognize the Rotary Club's participation in promotions, and do a live chat when they come in the summer cruiser to pick up the backpacks and supplies on Monday, August 20th.

We will probably be featured on 103.1 FRESH-FM, Country 104, FM 96 and 980 CFPL.

Breakfast of Champions Award Recipient
This past Tuesday at the Breakfast of Champions, organized by St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation and the Middlesex branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), the two Champion of Mental Health Awards were presented by CMHA Middlesex.  They recognize a group and an individual who make significant contributions to mental wellness in our community.

Mental health advocate Kristen Legault-Donkers, a psychology student at King’s University College, received the ‘individual’ award for the series of books she published on depression, anxiety, ADHD and bipolar disorder geared to children. Through a partnership with our Rotary Club the books will be distributed to 100 elementary schools in the Thames Valley District School Board. Congratulations Kristen!
