Rotary Club of London Board Meeting
The Salvation Army Centre of Hope
May 18, 2018
7:30 AM – 9:00 AM

Our Monday 21 May Programme:

Our Monday 28 May Programme:

This will be our Annual Joint Meeting with the Kiwanis Club of forest City-London.

Our speakers will be Kelly Paleczny, General Manager of the London Transit Commission, Sheryl Rooth, Chair of the London Transit, Commission, Chair of the Rapid Transit Implementation Working Group and Chair of the London For All Transportation Group when not fulfilling her duties with The Salvation Army and Mayor Matt Brown.

They will be talking about the City of London’s Bus Rapid Transit plans.

“London is currently Canada’s largest city without a rapid transit system, but investing in BRT today will ensure we can continue to prosper alongside other world-class cities for generations to come. With BRT corridors acting as the spine of the transit system, plus 35 percent increase in transit service hour system-wide, there are benefits for all bus riders. But all Londoners – including those who drive – will have an enhanced experience, thanks to the project’ investments in smart traffic signals, road widening and streetscape improvements, plus dedicated bus lanes that help keep traffic moving smoothly. With BRT London can capitalize on infrastructure investments and build a best-in-class transportation system to carry us – and our economy – into the future.”   – City of London

We will be meeting at the London Convention Centre in Salon B,B1 on the ground floor.

Rotary News Today

May is Rotary Youth Service Month

Each year, Rotary connects thousands of young people to a global network of friendshipservice, and action. As Rotaractors and Interactors, they make a difference in communities at home and abroad. Through the Rotary Youth Exchange, they explore new cultures.  Through the Adventure in Citizenship Award and the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, RYLA, (Seminar for Tomorrow’s Leaders in our District) participants learn skills that will help them succeed as community leaders. Each year over 500,000 young people participate in Rotary Youth Service programs worldwide.

Our Club is very involved in Youth Service. We are the sponsor for the Western University and Fanshawe College Rotaract clubs and co-sponsor of the London Interact Club. This year we sent 2 Youth Exchange students abroad and are hosting a student, Juan. We sent a student to the Adventures in Citizenship program in Ottawa and will be sending 7 students to our District’s Seminar for Tomorrow’s Leaders (RYLA).

The Rotary Club of London President’s Cup Golf Tournament September 19, 2018 at The Oaks Golf Club

On September 19th 2018, The Rotary Club of London will host its first annual Presidents Cup Golf Tournament at the prestigious The Oaks Golf Club in Delaware.

We are looking for your attendance on the golf course, take advantage of our early bird rate of $130 now available, and support to make this event a success.

We are also looking for Sponsorship support.  Sponsorship of the tournament starts at $200 for the longest drive and closest to the pin holes and sponsorships increase incrementally up to the $5000 for the tournament sponsor. Please consider sponsoring the first Annual Presidents Cup Golf Tournament.

All proceeds raised from this event will be put towards supporting our local Community initiatives.

If you do wish to be a sponsor or have golf questions please reach out to Andrew Adamyk in person or email at: andrewadamyk@hotmail.com .

Breakfast of Champions Award Recipient
This past Tuesday at the Breakfast of Champions, organized by St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation and the Middlesex branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), the two Champion of Mental Health Awards were presented by CMHA Middlesex.  They recognize a group and an individual who make significant contributions to mental wellness in our community.

Mental health advocate Kristen Legault-Donkers, a psychology student at King’s University College, received the ‘individual’ award for the series of books she published on depression, anxiety, ADHD and bipolar disorder geared to children. Through a partnership with our Rotary Club the books will be distributed to 100 elementary schools in the Thames Valley District School Board. Congratulations Kristen!

Rotary Tree Planting Event, Saturday 9 June @Paul Haggis Park, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
This year, our Rotary International President, Ian Riseley, gave us a challenge for each Rotarian to plant a tree.  For our club to meet this challenge, we have planned a tree planting, working with ReForest London along with R/C London South and our Satellite members. Volunteers needed - a great opportunity for families and friends to work together, have fun and help the environment.

To register sign up at our registration desk or please contact Carol Townsend at: elaine_t@rogers.com
