March is Rotary Water and Sanitation Month
Clean water is a basic need for human beings. When people, especially children, have access to clean water, they live healthier and more productive lives. However, at least 3,000 children die each day from diseases caused by unsafe water, which is what motivates Rotarians to build wells, install rainwater harvesting systems, and teach community members how to maintain new infrastructure.

While very few people die of thirst, millions die from preventable waterborne diseases, providing the impetus for Rotarians to also improve sanitation facilities in undeveloped countries. Rotarians start by providing toilets and latrines that flush into a sewer or safe enclosure and then add education programs to promote hand-washing and other good hygiene habits.

The Jack Burghardt Community Service Above Self Award
This prestigious award may be awarded annually in the spring of the year. The purpose of The Jack Burghardt Community 'Service Above Self’ Award is to recognize a member of the Rotary Club of London who is primarily involved as an active community volunteer in “non-Rotarian” activities, and secondarily as an active member within the Rotary Club of London. All current active members of the Rotary Club of London, including Board members, are eligible to receive this award with the exception of the following members who are previous recipients: Bill Barnett, Jim Swan, Heather Broadhead, Bruce McGauley, Randy Warden, Felipe S. Gomes, Jan Delaney, John Eberhard and Jim Belton.

Members of the Club are requested to complete the Nomination Form and forward to the Club Secretary at jimbelton@rogers.com  by Tuesday, 13 March.  The form can be found at our registration desk or on the home page of our website under “Home Page Download Files”. The final decision rests with the Board.
