Our speaker will be Don McDougall who will be joining us from Prince Edward Island. A native of PEI, Don graduated with a B. Comm. from St. Dunstan’s University, Charlottetown, and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario, which he attended on a Labatt scholarship.

Don joined Labatt in 1961 as a management trainee and worked in several management positions in B.C., Ontario and Alberta before assuming the Presidency of Labatt in 1973.  During his tenure, Labatt increased its market share, acquired new breweries, expanded existing ones, built the Gilles Villeneuve track in Montreal and acquired the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Franchise. Don also played a role in keeping the Alexander Keith’s beer brand alive.

After leaving Labatt, Don bought Novatronics, an aerospace company in Stratford that designs and manufactures electric motors and position sensors for the commercial aerospace, military aerospace and industrial markets. When Curtiss-Wright acquired Novatronics in 2003, Don created Rambi Management and became a real estate developer in Stratford.  Earlier this year, Don sold the Rambi developments except for Mill River Resort, an 80-room golf resort in Bloomfield, PEI.

Don’s topic will be: Lessons Learned While Having Fun

Club Dates to Remember for 2020:

The Virtual Rotary East Coast "Right in Your Own" Kitchen Party - This Saturday, May 30, 2020 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Any minute now the www.rotaryeastcoastkitchenparty.ca website will be open and ready for you and your fun loving bubble to register. (Keep trying. We still had some things to workout at press time, but it should be good to go soon.)

You’ll be able to log in to the Zoom webcast so you, other Rotarians, Rotary Friends, and anyone who loves to party in a high energy fun loving way will be able to connect.

Newfoundlander Peter Garland will guide us around the kitchen introducing us to our guests and sharing some east Coast stories. Shane Cook and the Woodchippers – Kyle Waymouth, Joe Phillips and Emily Flack will be with us for the evening.  J.P. Cormier, winner of 13 East Coast Music Awards, Tommy Leadbeater, Cape Breton Tenor, and Ron James, East Coast Stand Up Comic and Satirists will be dropping into the virtual kitchen to add to the fun.

Here’s the deal:  the ticket cost is $0.00 (yes, zero) but we encourage you to spend some money on both dinner and donations.

1.   Click on this link https://trellis.org/rotary-club-of-london

2.   Use <full screen> and scroll down the page to get all the information (tickets, donations, dinner options, event sponsors, etc.) but don’t click on anything yet until you get to the bottom … now that you know where everything is, scroll back to the top and click on the blue Tickets box.  That will take you to …

3.   Purchase Options … Enter the number of people including yourself that will be viewing in your kitchen. Use the email address that you wish to receive the link to view in your kitchen and then click Continue

4.  Donations … If you want to make a Donation at this stage, click on one of the Pier choices and then scroll down … click on Add $X donation … or otherwise click Skip.  You’ll see your choice reflected in the Cart at right. Click Continue.

5.   About You … Next, you’ll be prompted to enter your personal information … and then …

6.   Recipients … Enter info for each of the people in your home you want to receive individual Zoom     invitations.

7.   Billing Details … if you made a donation, enter your credit card details (‘tanks, by!), otherwise you won’t see this section

8.   Review … if all the info is correct, click on the blue Submit box.  You will be taken to a confirming page … if not, make sure you click on Submit again

9.   Dinner: now go back to the main page (as per the link above) and browse through the menu from the local restaurants and place your order directly with them!  If you ordered your tickets for others not in your household, forward this link to them so they can order their own food choices separately!  Thanks for supporting local business.

      a.   In just a few minutes, you’ll receive an email that will include our thanks, your charitable tax receipt if you already made a donation, and a “ticket” that contains a square QR code

10.   Zoom Invitation Links:  you can ignore the QR code … each of the email addresses you registered will receive a Zoom link shortly before the party starts (day before or day of) so it will be fresh near the top of the Inbox (along with extra guidance for those who have not used Zoom, etc. before).

June is Rotary Fellowships Month
The Rotary Fellowships Program is a structured program of Rotary International that comprises more than 70 independent fellowships. They are independent, social groups that share a common passion.
Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends around the world. Rotary Fellowships consist of members who share a common interest in recreational activities, sports, hobbies, or professions. These groups help expand skills, foster vocational development, and enhance the Rotary experience by exploring interests while developing connections around the world.
Visit www.rotary.org/fellowships  for additional resources on Rotary Fellowships.
