Our speaker on Monday April 4th will be Bob Barney, PhD Professor Emeritus, School of Kinesiology, UWO. Robert K. Barney born in Winthrop, Massachusetts, in 1932, he has lived and worked in Canada at Western University for 50 years. Educated at the University of New Mexico, his PhD was achieved in 1968. He is recipient of the International Olympic Committee’s Olympic Order (1998), the North American Society for Sport History’s Recognition Award for “Exceptional Lifetime Contributions to the Study of Sport History” (2003), and the Pierre de Coubertin Award given by the International Society of Olympic Historians for “Lifetime Contributions to Historical Scholarship on the Modern Olympic Movement (2010). In 2014 Western University conferred upon him the Doctor of Laws, Honorus Causa. He is active at Western in PhD graduate student supervision, teaching graduate courses, and personal research and publication. Talk title: “An Olympic Calling: Donnie Pei, the People’s Grass Roots Movement, and Western’s Part in the Origin and Evolution of Olympic Education in China”

If you are unsure what to give, consider purchasing a student furniture unit, for $130.00Cdn a double student table and two chairs can be purchased. The Rotary Club of London Foundation will provided charitable donation receipts to individuals.

ShelterBox is responding to the Ukraine crisis and sending a team to eastern Europe. We are working to understand the type of emergency shelter people fleeing Ukraine need, if our aid will be suitable, and which locations we might be able to work in. We are coordinating with local authorities, Rotary, and other aid organizations to make sure as many people as possible will receive the help they need. In response to the deepening humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, The Rotary Foundation has created an official channel for Rotary members around the world to contribute funds to support the relief efforts underway by Rotary districts and has designated its Disaster Response Fund as the main avenue for contributions. The Rotary Club of London is participating in the 2022-23 Rotary Youth Exchange Program. We are in need of a host family for our inbound student from Switzerland Nanda Jurt. We require 3 families (Sept -Dec, Jan -April, April- mid July). I am happy to report that Club member Ian Davies and family will host Nanda Sep.-Dec. and Harry Joosten and family will host Nanda Jan-April. We are actively looking for a host family to host Nanda in April-mid July. Hosting an exchange student is an incredibly rewarding opportunity for all family members.
