Rotary News Today

December is Rotary Disease Prevention and Treatment Month
Rotary's top priority is the eradication of polio, but our members take on far greater responsibilities to fight disease. They set up health camps and training facilities in undeveloped countries and in communities struggling with HIV/AIDS and malaria. They also design and build the infrastructure for doctors, nurses, governments, and partners to reach the one in six people in the world who can't afford to pay for health care.

Disease prevention and treatment takes on many forms, from supporting studies to helping immunize people to improving drinking water and the sanitation infrastructure. The world relies on Rotary to tackle these global challenges, and to set an example for others to follow.

Eradicate Polio Worldwide
Through 2018 every $1 Rotary commits to direct support for polio immunization will be matched 2-to-1 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Therefore $1 = $3; $20 = $60, $100 = $300 etc. Please provide Sandy Ronson with your PolioPlus donation information.

Festival Coffee
Thank you to the 17 Rotarians who immediately stepped up and volunteered to sell a case of coffee. We are looking for another 20 Rotarians to help out. If we all sell a case of coffee, a case containing only 6 bags ($10 per bag) it will be a very easy fundraiser for us. You can pick up the coffee from the London Convention Centre during this week. All funds support youth activities and area schools.

Eye Glasses for Mexico - LAST CALL!
As part of their Avoidable Blindness Project the Rotary Club of Burton, Michigan, who are in our District, have been taking 2-3,000 pairs of eye glasses (regular and sunglasses) to Mexico each year for many years. Under the leadership of Stu Eberhard and Ramon Marti, we are looking for used glasses which we will forward to the Burton club. Please bring your glasses to our meeting on Monday and leave them at the registration table.
