Our Programme for 6 November

On Monday, 6 November our speaker will be fellow Rotarian Randy Warden.

Vimy Ridge in northern France is Canada’s largest overseas national memorial. Situated on land granted by France to the Canadian people, the Vimy Memorial towers over the scene of Canada’s most recognizable First World War engagement, the Battle of Vimy Ridge, fought from 9 to 12 April 1917.

On Sunday, April 9th of this year, thousands came from coast to coast to coast to the Vimy Memorial, to say thank you and to remember, on the 100th anniversary of that fateful battle — and reflect on its enduring legacy. One of those visitors was Randy who will share with us this very moving experience.

We will be meeting at the London Convention Centre in Salon H,J on the ground floor

Please Note: PARKING - the LCC underground parking garage is undergoing a "Face Lift" one level at a time which will reduce parking space. If the "Lot Full" gate is down for the garage, parking may be available in the East Lot. If you park there please place your Rotary Club Parking Voucher, face up, on your dash board.
 Greeters for Monday, 6 November:
Don Bork and Paul Broadhead

Greeters for 13 November Bud Loughlin and Ian Wright.

50/50 Draw
$62.50 as of 30 October  - only 44 cards left in the deck.
Rotary News Today

November is The Rotary Foundation (of Rotary International) Month
The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.  The Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world.

There are as many reasons to support The Rotary Foundation as there are ways to do good in the world.  Through the Every Rotarian, Every Year (EREY) initiative, your contributions of any amount to the Annual Fund or the PolioPlus campaign are the primary source of funding for Foundation programs. Every Rotarian is encouraged to participate in a Foundation project and make a personal gift to the Annual Fund every year.

The Salvation Army London Christmas Kettle Campaign 2017

We have been asked to attend the Kettles December 1, 8, 15, 18, 19, 20, 21 from 9am until closing time at 7:30pm.  This means we will have 3 shifts for each of these days. Sign-up sheets are available at our registration desk. Please indicated times and dates that you can help, indicating 1st and 2nd choices so we can easily resolve duplication, and return to Jim Swan or contact him at hjimswan@gmail.com

The Rotary Foundation Contribution Information
Annual Fund: Your gift to the Annual Fund helps Rotary clubs take action today to create positive change in communities at home and around the world. Your contributions help to strengthen peace efforts, provide clean water and sanitation, support education, grow local economies, save mothers and children, and fight disease.

PolioPlus: The support of Rotary, donors, and governments remains critical in the final stages of polio eradication. Every $1 Rotary commits to direct support for polio immunization will be matched 2-to-1 (up to $35 million per year) by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation plus an additional 2-to-1 by the Government of Canada.  Therefore $1 = $5; $20 = $100, etc. Yes, each donation to PolioPlus makes quintuple the impact!

There are two easy ways to make a contribution to The Rotary Foundation:
a) give your cheque or credit card information to Sandy at Monday’s meeting and we will forward your payment to The Rotary Foundation (Canada).  As an FYI Cdn $1.27 = US$1 for the month of November.

b) make a donation through the RI website: login to Rotary.org
On the home page click on “GIVE” – upper right corner of the page
Go to “I WANT TO SUPPORT ROTARY’S CURRENT WORK” and/or
Go to “I WANT TO SUPPORT A POLIO-FREE WORLD” and click on “GIVE NOW
Under Annual Fund click “Annual fund – SHARE”, click “Continue”,
Under Polio-Plus Fund click “PolioPlus”, click “Continue”,
For both scenarios enter your Amount, and Frequency (One time, Monthly, Quarterly, Annual), click “Continue”, And fill in the information requested and proceed to the payment page.
