The most powerful force in the promotion of international understanding and peace is exposure to different cultures. The world becomes a smaller, friendlier place when we learn that all people regardless of nationality desire the same basic things: a safe, comfortable environment that allows for a rich and satisfying life for our children and ourselves.
Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) provides thousands of young people with the opportunity to meet people from other lands and to experience their cultures. This plants the seeds for a lifetime of international understanding.
Monday we will be hearing from:

October Rotary Economic and Community Development Month
Nearly 1.4 billion employed people live on less than $1.25 a day. Rotarians promote economic and community development and reduce poverty in underserved communities through training, well-paying jobs, and access to financial management institutions. Projects range from providing people with equipment to vocational training. Rotarians work to strengthen local entrepreneurs and community leaders, particularly women, in impoverished communities. Our Club is providing school desks and supplies in Haiti and South Africa.
Youth Exchange Recruitment
Youth Exchange provides thousands of young people, aged 16-18, with the opportunity to meet people from other lands and to experience their cultures.
If you know of a student who would be interested in participating in this program please pass this information on to Randy Harden at randy.harden@gmail.com or Don Bork at don.bork@gmail.com

Start2Finish Running & Reading Club Volunteers Start2Finish is looking for volunteers to help, on a consistent basis, for our after-school program. The program runs at 5 TVDSB locations: Wilton Grove (Adelaide and Southdale) - Tuesdays Wilfrid Jury (Sarnia and Wonderland) - Tuesdays Woodland Heights (Springbank and Wonderland) - Wednesdays FD Roosevelt (First and Oxford) - Wednesdays Trafalgar (Trafalgar and Hamilton) - Wednesdays
All clubs run 3:30-5:30. The first half of the club is devoted to physical activity and the second half is literacy. All volunteers are not runners - there are ways to support the kids without actually running.
The highest needs, for volunteers, are at Wilfrid Jury and Wilton Grove. In particular, at Wilfrid Jury. They have a high percentage of UWO students, who are away most of December, reading week, and from spring exams on. Those times they are extremely low on volunteers at that club.
Start2Finish will be having a one-time orientation before clubs start (the beginning of October), and anyone is welcome to attend that. This information will be passed on when it's solidified.
