Sudden Cardiac Arrest
Nov. 07, 2019 12:00 p.m.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest kills over 7,000 youth and over 350,000 people each year. It is the leading cause of death on school campuses. Research shows that 1 in 300 youth have an undetected heart condition. In many cases, Sudden Cardiac Arrest strikes with no obvious symptoms. A recent study by the American Heart Association showed that family history and physical examinations alone miss youth at risk for Sudden Cardiac Arrest. The standard sports physical does not adequately protect youth from the risk of SCA because the issues with the heart that can lead to Sudden Cardiac Arrest are not heard with the stethoscope. An EKG can detect most conditions that lead to SCA.
Ms. Gibson lost her son on March 12,2019 to Sudden Cardiac Arres. She describes her son as s a loving, giving young man who always put others As a gifted athlete turned coach , Ms. Gibson has led her team to win 5 consecutive District and Regional championships and 4 consecutive State top 3 team finishes. Ms. Gibson’s honors include being inducted on the Cy-Fair ISD Wall Of Fame, the 2014 Texas Track Coach of The Year, a Brooks Inspiring Coach, and 2018 Vype Magazine Coach of The Year. Ms. Gibson is offering EKG screening and CPR Training at Villa Sports on Thursday October 17 from 2- 4 PM |
