Get Involved
The Rotary Club of Nanaimo runs the spring and fall book sales that help fund local organizations and community projects. Our work includes support for Nanaimo Association of Community Living and VIU Bursaries, as well as international service projects.
You’re welcome to come to a meeting or volunteer with us without becoming a member. If you’re interested in joining, spending some time with the club is a good place to start.
Join Us for Lunch
Guests are welcome at our Friday meetings. You don’t need to know a member or have any previous experience with Rotary. You’ll have time to meet the people at your table over lunch. Meetings usually include a guest speaker or club program, along with updates about what members are working on.
📅 When: Most Fridays, noon to 1:30 p.m.
📍 Where: Nanaimo Golf Club, 2800 Highland Boulevard
🍽️ Lunch: $30 per person for the buffet
On the third Friday of each month, we meet on Zoom from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Please let us know if you’d like to attend so we can confirm the arrangements and welcome you. You can also check our meeting schedule and upcoming speakers.
Volunteer
Community volunteers work alongside our members to sort donated books throughout the year and help during the spring and fall sales. Their time and effort help make the book sale possible.
If you’d like to volunteer, contact us with your availability. We can explain the roles currently available and what each involves.
You can also ask about helping with other club projects. Let us know what interests you, and we’ll tell you where help is needed.

Become a Member
Membership gives you an ongoing part in the club’s work and activities. Members attend meetings and contribute to the book sale and community service projects.
Before you apply, our membership chair will talk with you about your interests and explain the commitments involved. There’s time to ask questions and get to know the club before deciding.
Annual membership dues are $250, payable twice a year. Meeting lunches and social activities are charged separately.
When you’re ready, we’ll help you complete a membership application. Once it’s approved, we’ll arrange your induction and formally welcome you as a member.
All new members participate in our Club’s Mentorship Program, which supports your integration and engagement within the club community.

Get Active! Join a Committee
Committees do much of the planning and day-to-day work of the club. Members are encouraged to join at least one committee, where they can get to know people in a smaller group and contribute to an area that interests them.
There are roles in everything from organizing meetings and social events to reviewing funding requests and working with community partners.
Administration. Two groups that help organize our weekly meetings.
Program: Arranges guest speakers for weekly meetings.
Sergeant-at-Arms: Prepares the meeting room, coordinates meeting duties, and engages member participation in memorable ways.
Book Sale. Manages the daily intake and sorting of donated books and plans the spring and fall sales. The committee also coordinates volunteers for sorting, cashier and banking duties.
Community Grants. Reviews funding requests from local organizations and makes recommendations to the board.
Community Partnerships. Works with organizations such as Nanaimo Foodshare and Nanaimo Family Life Association on joint projects. Also arranges hands-on projects and seeks district matching funds for one project each year.
International Service. Supports service projects outside Canada and reviews requests for financial assistance for international projects.
Membership Attraction & Engagement. Organizes activities to bring new members into the club, helps them get started, and connects members with volunteer opportunities.
Public Image. Helps the community understand who we are and what we do by sharing timely news, photos and stories through our website, social media and local media.
Rotary Foundation. Encourages support for The Rotary Foundation through financial contributions and participation in grant projects. Its work spans community, vocational, international and youth service.
Social Events Planning. Plans gatherings outside weekly meetings for members and their families to get to know each other beyond regular club business.
Youth Service. Supports youth programs, including Rotary Youth Exchange, Interact, Rotaract and Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), as well as local projects for young people.
