The theme of September’s social gathering at the Nanaimo Golf Club was 100 Years of Rotary in Nanaimo Golf Tournament & Dinner. A few members dress-up in period clothing from the 1920-30's. Six teams of 4 played golf and there were 8 additional guests for dinner. Once everyone was settled with refreshments, President Bob Janes opened the meeting by thanking the event organizers, sponsors, prize donors, and the participants for making this another fun social under COVID-19 restrictions. Click here for more photos from the event. InductionPresident Bob introduced Denise Wittkofski, who introduced Tim Oben, our newest club member. Denise is Tim's sponsor and shared a brief biography for the members present. Tim's classification is Photography. Wayne Anderson conducted the formal induction into membership. Welcome to membership in the Rotary Club of Nanaimo Tim. We all look forward to learning more about you and working with you on club projects. Golfing AwardsAfter dinner and dessert, the awards were given out. The most honest foursome went to Keith McFarlane, Derek Rickwood, Joyce and Ron Smith. Lowest score was Dave and Cindy Hammond and Bill and Linda Scott, who tied with Janeane and Chris Coutu and President Bob and Terry Janes at even par. Dave’s team managed their par with two birdies and two bogeys. Bob’s team managed their par with one birdie and one bogey. To break the tie a vote was conducted and by a show of hands the Janes and Coutus were awarded the prize for the best golfers of the day. The other teams each received one golf ball. The Lady's longest drive winner was Cindy Hammond. The Men's longest drive winner was Alden Holzwarth. The Lady's closest to the pin winner was Linda Scott. The Men's closest to the pin winner was Keith McFarlane. The Best Dressed costume award was given to Dawn Hankins and Tracy Makarenko, with honourable mentions to Wendy and Keith McFarlane. Happy and Sad BucksA number of members contributed and Egon is continuing to tally all the ferry money he's saved by not attending meetings due to COVID-19. AnnouncementsThe sponsors of the event were Serious Coffee (Carlene Shaw), Fitzwilliam Mortgage (John Salem), Bees Knees (Shirin Younessian), Dawn Hankins, Tracy Makarenko, and the Nanaimo Golf Course which donated $360 worth of green fees. Dawn Hankins and Tracy Makarenko donated gift baskets, which Lisa Rickwood, Egon Holzwarth, and Wendy McFarlane won. John Salem announced that there are golf shirts being designed for the 100 years in Nanaimo anniversary. Once available, members can put in an order. As a door prize, Dawn Hankins and John Hankins names were drawn to each receive one of the golf shirts. Special thanks to Joe Wittkofski for being the official photographer for the event.
