The following is President Charles Ramos' speech delivered by Vice President Wahid Ali.
Honoured guests, friends and fellow Rotarians I thank you for joining us for the evening’s celebration.
I am proud to have been given the opportunity to serve as your president for the last year. This has been a rewarding and interesting experience. There are many wonderful people in this club with great energy, helping to create a better life for those in need around the world. Over the years I have been involved with, and on the board of, many community groups, but nowhere have I met better people than the members of this club.
I want to thank:
Our board for their commitment to the club, the donated time, and for all their hard work to ensure we had a successful year.
Our committees and committee chairs for doing the actual work of the club
Our club members for rising to the occasion when called upon. Your ongoing support of club initiatives is incredible.
Our District Governor Craig Gillis for his guidance, positive attitude and encouragement.
Our Assistant District Governor Wayne Anderson for his support and coordination of the 5 clubs

The other presidents of the five Nanaimo clubs for many enjoyable evenings at the Golf Club
I am not going to try to highlight all our accomplishments for the year, but there is one that must be mentioned. This is of course the booksale. This is such a phenomenal success, with better execution each year, that it has become the envy of all other clubs in the District. The funds raised allow us to support those in need in so many different areas. Thanks very much to the booksale committee and particularly to chair Janeane Coutu for all you’ve done. This year’s success will be a tough act to follow. Good luck to incoming chair Brent Stetar. You have the club’s full support.
You should all be very pleased with what we as a club accomplished this year. Almost all of what we set out to do was looked after. I salute the members of the Rotary Club of Nanaimo.
To Janeane and her incoming board: I wish you well in the year ahead. You have a lot of work to do, with the Centennial celebration on top of all the regular day to day club activities. Good luck. Fortunately, you have a strong and talented workforce and have the full support of the club.
In closing I thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as your president. My main personal goal in this role was for us all to have fun together while supporting the things that matter to members. I think we came pretty close.
