We are thrilled to announce that the Boise Sunrise Rotary Club, in partnership with the Chimoio-Planalto Rotary Club of Mozambique, have just made a significant contribution to improving healthcare access in communities across Gorongosa National Park’s Sustainable Development Zone. We were recently able to donate a brand new vehicle to a vital health project called Mobile Health Brigades that reaches people living in remote areas around the Park with essential medical services. This vehicle will serve as a lifeline, connecting healthcare professionals to those who need it most, ensuring that no one is left behind.
None of this would have been possible without the incredible generosity and unwavering commitment of the Rotary International family, embodied in funding through a Rotary Global Grant. Fundraising through this grant came in the form of donations from Boise Sunrise Rotary as well as other Rotary clubs in Boise (Boise Downtown, Meridian, Boise East) and in Minnesota (Lakeville, Prior Lake), a significant private donation and matching funds from Rotary Districts (5400 and 5960) and the Rotary Foundation’s World Fund. These funds are not only providing a new vehicle but will also help with training and equipment for the programs providing healthcare to vulnerable populations. Our partnership with the Gorongosa Restoration Project is also essential to success in the delivery of these much-needed healthcare programs.
Together, we are making a real and tangible difference in the lives of countless individuals, helping to build healthier, happier communities. Everyone involved deserves thanks for being a part of this journey of saving lives. In June, a team of Mozambican Rotary club members visited Gorongosa Park to hand over the vehicle to the health team there. This was a small but very significant ceremony symbolizing increased access to healthcare services to communities across two more districts in the remote areas of Dondo and Maringue. Healthcare in these areas is problematic due to the remoteness of the residents, poor road conditions (impassable during wet season), and lack of public transportation. This is another example of Rotarians working together around the globe to leave it better than we found it!
