Boise Sunrise and the Cathedral of the Rockies partner on Mirror Image

The Mirror Image program was founded with the recognition that Middle School and High School boys and girls that were unable to afford personal hygiene and grooming items often have a low self-esteem, performed poorly academically, and feel ostracized by their peers.  A concerned individual started this program at the Cathedral of the Rockies in partnership with two Boise schools and the counselors.  They knew that a downward spiral of poor grades and exclusion from social membership issues could lead to long term disadvantages for these students.

The church communicates the needs to the community and people have been donating full size shampoo, conditioner, soap, razors, tooth brushes and tooth paste, tampons, pads, deodorant, and other items.  The school counselors discuss the individual needs with a student and check off boxes on an order request.  Those completed forms are then delivered to the Cathedral of the Rockies where Mirror Image volunteers fill the orders and return them to the schools.    Each students’ anonymity is protected throughout the process. Currently over 18 schools are participating in this program. Donations of  full size items are preferred because the goal is to solve the need for at least 30 days.

Boise Sunrise Rotary club recently designated Mirror Image as a recipient of our monthly Center of the Table donations. The $512 check is expected to enable the program to meet the needs of these students for about the next 6 months. We are pleased and proud to partner with the Cathedral and our primary contacts on this quiet yet effective program are Pete Schroeder and Laura Thomson; pictured below.

At Boise Sunrise, we strive to leave it better than we found it. We meet every Tuesday morning 7:00 – 8:00 AM at The Riverside Hotel. If this type of active service to our hometown sounds of interest to you, please contact John Lodal at 208-559-6507 or email him at jnlodal@gmail.com . We would be delighted to have you join us for breakfast and meet the club members and see what else is afoot in this active service club in Boise. Bravo! To Pete and Laura and all of the other volunteers who make this program work. We are glad to have the opportunity to partner with such a dedicated team.
