The United States Navy will be in town for Boise Navy Week held in conjunction with the Idaho Western Fair.  Commander Jonathan Benjamin Cantor, will be joining us along with LTJG Robert Timken(Supply Officer), EMN1 Michael Zuber(Nuclear Electrician) and TM3 Demarcos Iveryarmstrong(Torpedoman), as part of their community outreach program and provide an overview of the U.S. Navy and open discussion on why it matters to the local community.  

Commander Jonathan Cantor enlisted in the Navy in 1997 as a Nuclear Field Electronics Technician. He was accepted into the Nuclear Enlisted Commissioning Program in 1999. He was commissioned at North Carolina State University in 2002 after earning Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering. Following graduation, he completed nuclear power training and the Submarine Officer Basic Course prior to assignment aboard USS WEST VIRGINIA (SSBN 736) (Blue) from 2004 to 2007. During his tour, he completed four strategic deterrent patrols.
 

In 2007, he earned a Masters Degree in Leadership, Education and Development from the University of Maryland prior to serving as the 16th Company Officer at the United States Naval Academy from 2008 to 2010.
 

Commander Cantor was a plankowner on board USS MISSISSIPPI (SSN 782) where he served as the Navigation and Operations Officer from January 2011 to September 2013. During his tour, he helped to complete Operational and Developmental Testing with the Dry Deck Shelter, proving Special Forces Operations capabilities for VA-class ships. In October 2013, he reported to Naval Submarine Training Command Pacific in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii where he served as the Tactics Officer.
 

Commander Cantor completed the Submarine Command Course in January 2016 and served as the Executive Officer of USS MISSOURI in Groton, CT from February 2016 to February 2018. During this tour, he completed a deployment to the European Command and a change of homeport to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

In Groton, CT from March 2018 to March 2020.

 

Commander Cantor is entitled to wear the Meritorious Service Medal with gold star, Navy Commendation Medal with three gold stars, Navy Achievement Medal with gold star, and various other unit awards earned by the fine Sailors with whom he has served.

 

He is married to the former Sarah Anne Bunn of Lynchburg, VA. They have five children and reside in Suffolk, VA.
