Illnesses: None to Report
President's Report:
Bill began by acknowledging an historic event in Rotary history; the new president nominee for 2022-23 is Jennifer Jones from Windsor Ontario. Historic in that she will be the first female president in Rotary’s 115 year history. Added bonus is that she is from Canada!
The passing of Hope Chickoski was acknowledged at the Meet-up. A moment of silence was also taken at this meeting. (Phyllis reported that flowers and a card of sympathy have been delivered to the family on behalf of the Rotary Club of Kentville)
Bill is actively working with this year’s committees and on-boarding our new directors. His initial focus is the Membership and the Youth committees. With retention and engagement as a major focus this year, Bill is working with the new directors to transition and renew these committees.
The program committee is working on returning to face-to-face meetings, beginning with a possible assembly on the 30th of August, with more to follow on this at a later date. (Roger noted he ran into Nat Janes who admitted he and his computer are incompatible and are filing for divorce based on irreconcilable differences! He is one of the many members anxious to resume in-person meetings when safe to do so).
Secretary’s Report: The club has received some correspondence (mostly cards of thanks) that will be made available at the planned assembly later this month.
Classification Presentation (Rick Graham)
Rick originally presented a classification talk back in the 90’s when he was a member of another club. The presentation today is a slightly modified version of that presentation. Rick retired as Director of Commercial Banking for Newfoundland and Labrador after a happy 36 year career in banking. He has volunteered with a number of organizations including Rugby Nova Scotia, United Way, Junior Achievement, and of course Rotary to name a few. His hobbies include woodworking and travel (and shyly admits to dabbling in gardening!). Rick introduced us to his lovely family (pictured above).
Thank you for sharing Rick. We are happy you have chosen Kentville as your forever home and that you chose the Rotary Club of Kentville. We appreciate all you do to help us achieve our mission! Wally thanked Rick for his short and sweet presentation.
Committee Reports:
Rotary Foundation (Phil): shared the RI Foundation minute (found in our news section)
Programs (Ellen): Next meeting will be August 21 (first thing in the morning) to set program for September.
Valley Faces of Business (Rod): Please follow-up with your contacts.
Mask Project (Ellen): There are still masks available. With the new regulations there has been a resurgence in uptake. The Valley Regional Libraries are collaborating with distribution. In total more than 10,000 masks were made and about 500 are left on hand. Annette in her new position will be rejigging the mask to make it easier to put on and take off for her clients.
Chase the Ace – Heather Lohr was the lucky ticket holder…

She drew the 6 of Clubs and the pot rolls over to next week.
Our meeting ended with the 4 Way Test led by Wally.... Please join us on Monday for our Zoom meeting!!! Hope to see you then.
