Heather: Great VRH Foundation event on Friday night, thanks to Ellen and the team.

 

June is the final month of the Rotary year, and per the strategic plan, they are looking for final reports from committees. Bill had a great time at the event on Saturday at Oakdene Park! Golf is starting this Tuesday (June 7^th) and the Lobster Doo is June 24^th, invite friends and partners! Try to sell some tulips for polio.

 

Recevied a note from Landmark East that their Closing Ceremonies are coming up at the Horton High School performance center, if you’d like to go, see Rick.

 

Elva- isolating or a few more days with Covid, but feeling much better.

Rick – Randy is continuing to have difficulty, and needs a lot of support.

 

Pierre – Environmental Day – Had a successful event, about 200 people participating through the day. Thanks to all of the volunteers!

 

Phyllis – the Rotary Clubs of Kings County Charitable Foundation presented two cheques, $15,000 for the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation and $15,000 for Landmark East. (Both groups received the money in December)

 

Ellen and Debbie gave their thanks to the Charitable Foundation for supporting the CT for Life campaign, they have reached their 1.5-million-dollar goal. Their next campaign is $250,000 for pulmonary function equipment.

 

 

Karen and Greg described Landmark East’s capital campaign and described how big of a difference the school can make in the lives of young people. They thanked the Foundation and the club for the support.

 

 

Heather – great job to Pierre and the volunteers on Environmental Day, there are t-shirts for sale (women’s) for $20.

 

Phil -  Golf is on for Tuesday, 11 people going!

Tulips –$25/box and $15 goes to Polio

Phil is doing Relay for Life and would love to have sponsors.

 

Lobster Doo – Register by June 20^th , can have lobster or steak, enter it in comments when you sign up.

 

Rotary Champions of Girls’ Empowerment

 

Six Rotary members were honored in March as People of Action: Champions of Girls’ Empowerment during Rotary Day with UNICEF in New York City. This distinction recognizes the honorees’ commitment to improving girls’ access to education, health, and sanitation and hygiene resources, as well as their work to create environments where girls can flourish. Empowering Girls is one of RI President Shekhar Mehta’s key initiatives, and he is encouraging clubs and districts to make it a focus of their service projects this year.

Momtaz Chowdhury from Bangladesh, Mildred Fragante from Philippines, Elaine Ruiz from Brazil, Srinidhi S U from India, Lydiah Njoroge from Kenya, and Motalib Weijters from The Netherlands are working every day to create environments where girls can flourish.
