Son and VERY PREGNANT daughter in law are doing very well. Rick: Is happy that his daughter who has been living in lower mainland BC is moving back to Halifax. Wally: Son and family living in England all got Covid but it was very mild and they are doing well. President’s Report: President Bill welcomed guests and members on Zoom. The Atlantic Canada Ukranian refugee appeal has raised over $117,000 so far. Elva also let the club know that the International committee donated $5000 in addition to the $5000 from the Club. The Evening meeting is set for March 28th, confirm with Rick your attendance for Paddy’s numbers. Illness Report: Randy – Rick let the members know that he had visited Randy this past week and his sprits were high, and communication was good, but physically he was having more difficulty. Guest Speaker: Terry Hennigar, Hydrolic Engineer – on Clean Water and Sanitation. Chris introduced Terry. Terry spoke on well drilling and water quality in Nova Scotia. His presentation is below. Terry then answered questions from the club including: What effects hard water? It’s related to calcium and magnesium in the water. Sink holes? Sink holes are a result flowing water under the surface, and there was a sink hole in Falmouth, and could potentially be more because of the type of rock under the community and the flowing water. Many questions would be asked about population versus amount of water. Terry explained that computer modelling would need to be done to measure that ratio. Wally thanked Terry for his presentation. Committee Reports: Pierre – Environmental Project – June 4th – 10am-2pm. In conjunction with the town of Kentville. It will be a day for environment education and awareness. It will be educational programs, VCLA (planting and gardens), maybe tree planting, Blomidon naturalist society, NSCC for compost, Invasive Species Council. Also, a BBQ. More information coming on how Rotarians will help/volunteer. RI Minute was shared by Doug Hill Raise for Rotary – Another Opportunity to Support Ukraine Raise for Rotary is a Rotary Foundation fundraising platform that provides clubs and districts an avenue to create fundraisers that support The Rotary Foundation. Some benefits of this platform include: Empowering Rotary members – Raise for Rotary is a custom-branded platform that’s integrated with our existing online giving system. This makes it easier to create a fundraiser that supports specific Rotary causes, such as the areas of focus, fighting polio, or disaster response, and it expands our reach on social media. Giving donors recognition credit – Donors who give through Raise for Rotary using the email address they use for other Rotary functions, such as their My Rotary account, will receive Rotary giving credit and recognition. Minimizing fees to do more good – External fundraising platforms all have their own fee structures, rules, and guidelines. By creating our own platform, we can process gifts more efficiently and accurately. And that means more of the funds donated go directly toward Doing Good in the World.
