What Did You Miss! – February 3, 2020
Chairperson: Craig MacMullen
O’Canada led by Sue Ueffing
Blessing led by Carl Kent
Guests: Gary Roop (guest speaker), Marlene Huntley (Bill Denyar) & Eric Ferrero (Rick Graham)
Happy $$$:
Doug: for visiting Mary Walsh and her feeling and looking better. (Definitely “not dead yet!”). She took them on a tour of the rehab, chatted for almost an hour and is coming home on Wednesday.
Sue: for a terrific trip to Aruba! And heading out again in two weeks!
Randy: for getting a chance to follow in his father’s footsteps by having a pool for the Superbowl (not baseball like his father), and a Rotarian had the winning ticket – Rick Graham won!
Rick: for Holland Home Leisure becoming a corporate member soon!
Heather: for hosting a baby shower for Katie and the twins [thank you so much to Heather, Phyllis and the club for organizing this for me! – Katie] on March 1st. Also Heather is happy she and John got to join Sue and Joe in Aruba and go to a rotary club there. They had very interesting books (history and directory) for their club – may be an interesting project for our future.
Pierre: reminded the club of the Rotary training on March 7th, and the club will support at least ten members to go – everyone is welcome to sign up!
President’s Report: Phil gave a special welcome to all of our guests including Eric, who is from Brazil and moved here with his family in September. Phil also wanted to make clear that the request from KCA for $7,500 for their school lunch program would go through the major project process, it was not approved by the board. Lastly, Phil reported on the event with the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation. He went to a meeting and got the info that tickets are $75 each or $125/couple. Troy is catering appetizers and you receive at least one drink with your ticket. Rotary would help with this event by helping with prizes, ticket sales (including tables), running games, promotion and setup/décor. The event is April 4th.
Guest Speakers: Jeff Kelly & Gary Roop – Supported Employment Program with the Flowercart Group.

Jeff explained the Flowercart had been 50 years in New Minas and they currently serve 176 people in Kings County. Recently their name changed to the Flowercart Group because they actually consist of a group of social enterprises. Then Jeff introduced a video about the Supported Employment Program and one of their clients Rachael who now works at Family 1st.
After they shared the terrific video, Gary explained how it is as easy for employers as calling or emailing about their needs and then Gary usually has a client that can fit those skills. Kim explained how great Rachael is working for her and what a good process was in place for supporting them.
Finally, Jeff explained that the plans for their new building are going very well, and as long as things continue that way, they will break ground Spring of 2021.
Garry Condon thanked Jeff and Gary for their great presentation.
Chase the Ace:
Elva won the draw for Chase the Ace but she picked the wrong ace!!!! So it’s a ROLL-OVER!
