Guest Speaker - Katheryn Whitewood, 100+ People Who Care, Annapolis Valley

The 100 women who care group started in 2013. It was founded by Paula Huntley in the Annapolis Valley, and they had over 100 women before the pandemic. Currently the group has 57 people and has merged with the men’s group. The co chairs are Steph Sedgwick, Sarah White, and Kathy Whitewood.

The pandemic really affected the group’s ability to meet, so they are in a rebuilding time now. The way it works is each of the members can nominate one charity to be considered for the donation, then three are drawn randomly to present at each meeting. Voting all happens within the day of the presentation, so within 24 hours the charity would know that they have received the donation. The last charity to receive the donation was the Charles McDonald House, who are working very hard to be able to keep the museum open. Currently, the group is starting to meet in person again with presenters by video.

Club members asked questions and Kathy explained that there used to be more socializing but now with Covid concerns there is less. If they are not successful, charity presenters can come back anytime, but if they are successful in receiving the donation they can’t present again for a year.

Sue - happy to have seen her friends at the cottage and saw her son and daughter-in-law and twin babies. They had a great weekend! Also, Joe is leaving for Holland for 10 days. Finally, she received a funny pillowcase from her son for Mother’s Day.

President’s Report:
Bill explained that for this weekend‘s conference there should be a zoom invite soon to be able to participate online on Friday night. Unfortunately, the watch party was canceled. He also thanked the events committee for a wonderful charter night, and read a thank you card from Paul Harris winner Sue Smith.

Illnesses:
Carl is recovering from Covid, and doing OK but now Vivian is in isolation.

Committee reports:

Phyllis - events: May 28th is the social and wine survivor at the Ueffing's. Guests are welcome, please register online.
Pierre - June 4th is the event at Oakdene Park.
Phil - Valley Faces: please over the pass for over the next month take some time to sell for Valley faces. They would like to get the book sold earlier so the club is spending fewer months focused on the Valley Faces fundraiser.
Golf: Phil and Chris spoke to Eagle crest and they can offer Tuesday or Thursday either weekly, biweekly or monthly. It could be 2:30 PM to play 18 holes or 5 PM to play nine holes and the cost would be $20 for nine holes and approximately $35 for 18. Please let Phil know the best day for you and whether you would prefer it to be just for club members or guests.

Rotary Supporting Ukraine Rotary stands with the United Nations General Assembly in expressing grave concern at "the ongoing human rights and humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, in particular at the reports of violations and abuses of human rights and violations of international humanitarian law by the Russian Federation." As a global humanitarian organization, Rotary takes a proactive stance toward peacemaking by addressing the underlying causes of conflict. We support recent UN General Assembly resolutions calling for an immediate ceasefire and withdrawal of Russian military forces from Ukraine. This aligns with Rotary’s deep commitment to promoting peace through dialogue and conflict resolution. We are working beside our partners in the international relief community to help provide resources to the more than 10 million Ukrainian refugees forced to flee the field of battle.
