Heather: Grandson born May 19^th, and his name is John!!

Sue: Wine survivor was a terrific event, lots of fun!! And she and Joe are headed to the International Convention in Houston, Texas.

Chris: Won 36 bottles of wine at the wine survivor event, there were rumors it was fixed, but he promises there was no shenanigans!! 😊

Khayriye: Happy to be at the meeting and that her mother, sister and brother have all arrived.

Shelley: Bought a house, and having fun getting ready to move. Her son Ben is doing a polygraph test, the next step in getting into Holland College, and they had a great time of Friday night.

Phil: Tuesday, June 7^th is the first day for Rotary golf at Eagle Crest. If you want to play 18, it starts at 3pm, playing 9 starts at 5:30pm. Please let Phil know by Friday if you would like to play.

Pierre: Saw the VanGogh exhibit in Halifax and it is definitely worth a trip in to visit.

Rick: His daughter landed in Nova Scotia today.

 

Bill had a great time at the event on Saturday night. This coming Saturday is Environmental Day at Oakdene Park. The Lobster Doo is June 24^th.

 

Recevied a thank you note from Dawn for support from the community services committee.

 

 

Barry Leslie spoke briefly about his experience trying to organize assistance for the incoming Ukrainian Refugees. Approximately 3 or 4 weeks ago he talked to Pauline Raven, Sarah Ehler and Wendy Donovan. They are going to try to work on housing, fundraising for furniture and working on things like tutors, a fund holder with charitable status and host families.

 

Sarah Ehler then spoke briefly on her work with Y Reach, the Kentville office. They have been working on helping to manage incoming families, with places to live, supplies, etc. They would like to have a list of all of the Ukrainian refugees in the area, as they can offer support and eventually they hope to organize get togethers, etc. She has been in the Kentville office for three years.

 

Finally, Elva explained that if we are “hosting” Ukrainian people in our area we can apply for some of the funds raised through Rotary International to help offset some costs.

 

 

Pierre – Environmental Day – The volunteer spots have been filling up which is great, but will certainly take as much help as is offered. It is 11-3 at Oakdene Park this Saturday the 4^th and June and there will be free compost, exhibitors, plant exchange tables, climate change programs for kids, and a BBQ and local food lunch.

 

Holly/Axel – Fundraising Project for New Minas – Doing ticket sales for SIX trips including, Cuba, Hawaii, Mexico and Italy. Tickets are $100 and your ballot goes back in even if you win a trip, so potentially you could win ALL SIX trips.

 

Phil – Valley Faces – Three pages left to sell of 96! Terrific! Any outstanding businesses who have been in on previous years, get them to sign contracts as we are almost sold out. Also, still don’t hesitate to approach new businesses and organizations. Committee chairs please put together a small highlight something significant from the year. Send Rod an email with any questions.

Tulips – 80 boxes sold so far, they are beautiful, so continue to sell them $25/box.

The Brigadoon Grand Opening of their new buildings in a week from Saturday (more info above in the news section!).

Phil is doing Relay for Life and would love to have sponsors – his name should be on the site by mid-week.

 

Sue – Events – Lobster Doo – Can have lobster or steak, sign up by June 20^th. Also it is BYO Everything, but food provided.

 

Poland has taken in more than a million refugees and Rotary clubs all over the country created a central account for contributions.

The Rotary Club of Olsztyn is collecting and managing donations for more than 150 Ukrainians who are staying at Ostróda Camp, a conference and recreation center. Most of the occupants are unaccompanied children whose parents stayed in Ukraine. Four cars full of supplies including food, clothes, toiletries, and toys were donated hours after the center began accepting refugees.

Members of the Rotary Club of Zamosc worked with a member of the Rotary Club of Wolsztyn, who owns a medical supply distribution company, to coordinate a partnership with other organizations to collect supplies and equipment.

The Rotary Club of Gdansk Centrum is providing accommodations for four refugee families, and members who own businesses are offering them work.
