Zoom Meeting - Our first on line meeting and we had 21 participants and 2 members who registered their regrets. President Elect Bill welcomed everyone (President Phil had some technical issues at first) and Past president Rod was our online technical support. Bill shared that the board has met and that we will move forward with regular weekly Zoom meetings which will include board and committee reports, happy dollars, guest speakers and any other regular business - working on how to do Chase the Ace as well!! President Phil shared the following: 1 The Presidents Council met in April and received reports from various Clubs in the South west. From the various reports one thing was clear,,All Clubs are adjusting to life with Covid 19 and they are adapting through the use of virtual meetings. Many members are enjoying the socialization from these Zoom meetings Some Clubs are finding that at the request of their members, they have actually increased the number of meetings. 2 It is unfortunate that a number of our activities have been postponed or cancelled because of Covid 19.Charter night is on hold and the Rural/Urban night has been cancelled for this year.As you know our Club's relationship with the farming community has been extremely important,This event has been one way our Club has been able to recognize the the farming community for their many contributions to improving .life in the valley. Therefore the Board approved that the budget for this event($750.00) would be donated to the local food bank in recognition of the farming community. 3 Hope all of you are doing well and your families are healthy Elva provided an update on the International Projects: International Services Zoom 1. The international services committee is meeting, as usual, the first or second Wednesday of the month, at 12:00 noon. We met last Wednesday at noon and will continue to do that in the near future. 2. Most projects that have been approved are stalled for the moment, because of Covid 19. Examples – Early Childhood project in South Africa- will start up again as soon as businesses begin to reopen. Mobile Medical Unit – Brazil – complete except for final detailing. Frozen in place, until restrictions are lifted. Recycling Project in Brazil – In report writing stage. Equipment Infectious Disease Hospital – Armenia – project approved. Waiting for final contributions. 3. New projects – Labrador Dialysis Project – on hold, because additional information is needed from Grenville Health Authority to define requirements. GHA are otherwise occupied because of Covid 19. Library/Computer Science Project in Port Angeles (quid Pro quo) for Labrador Project. Application nearly complete. We are providing mentorship. Disaster Relief Project with NYC. We will be international partner. Under temporary rules for responding to Covid 19, international partners do not need to provide $$. 4. Planning for 2020-21. For the next little while we’ve decided to deal with requests as they come along Kelly shared information on New Kentville Rotary Banners, paid for by the District - see details and picture in our next Spokesperson!! Covid 19 special Mask project: Kentville Rotary has contributed $5,000 towards material to make protective masks. It works like this: Anyone who wishes to participate and SEW can contact https://www.vrhfoundation.ca/news/projectscrubsandmasks/ Once confirmed the Hospital Foundation with support of Kentville Rotary will help deliver the material. Each kit will make 27 masks and includes one sample. Upon completion they can take it to a designated drop-off location or again if unable to do so we will make arrangements to pick them up. At this point we do not know exactly how busy we will be but get ready to lend a hand when we call-out for support. If you know of any one who wants to help SEW, direct them to the contact as listed above. Update from Katie - I’m so happy to report we are at home!!! A week ago on Monday they discharged Finn, actually about a week and a half earlier than we expected because he was and is doing so well. It’s incredible to be at home though it is weird. My parents and friends have done “window visits” to see Finn and chat with us. I laugh though because the amount of hand washing and hand sanitizing you do in the NICU it feels like nothing changed. Finn had a doctors appointment with the family doctor to make sure his weight was increasing. He’s now a beefy 6lbs 6oz. Big "THANK YOU" to Cate Savage - couple of weeks ago we did a call-out to anyone who might have an extra lap top that was not in use. Cate came through for us and we have a Senior lady restricted to a wheel chair who is now very grateful and happy! Kentville Rotary received a "thank you" letter from the Fundy Interchurch Food Bank for our generous donation - it was greatly appreciated!! We will keep you updated on the food banks, presently groceries that were donated by stores are getting less because more people are shopping and buying more. WHY - because everyone has to eat at home, no where else to go!! Phyllis reminds us that PH Fellows submissions are still open, if you know of anyone (especially during this critical time) from the community or a fellow Rotarian that qualifies for this special recognition please contact Phyllis for the application form. See you all next week through Zoom conference - get ready to share Happy $$$ Made by children in Italy, the pictures have the words, “Andrà tutto bene,” which translates to, “All will be well or "Everything will be all right.” |
