What did you Miss!!  May 4,2020
Kentville Rotary Zoom meeting

Chairperson:  President Elect Bill Denyar

Visiting Rotarians:  Heather Hennigar ADG, New Minas Rotary

O'Canada led by Sue Ueffing

Bill Welcomed everyone and our special visitor!    Bill asked all to reflect for minute in silence as he shared the names of those that died in the helicopter accident in the Mediterranean this past week.

Happy $$$:

Sue for being alive, having gone grocery shopping for the first time in 6 weeks since her isolation.

Ellen for the opportunity to get out and visit the garden nurseries - Happy gardening!!

Bill added to Ellen's comment about gardening that in past years Dawn always got frustrated that her bulb flowers when budding would get eaten by deer, rabbit etc. but not this year she spread shavings of Irish Soap and they stayed away!!!  I believe Bill's favourite soap!

Kimberley shared that she can relate to the strong aroma of Irish springs, but not her favorite.  Kim was happy that Ross's Covid19 beard came off this weekend and to have her handsome husband back, let's just say he had problem growing one and first time ever since they met that he grew one.

Jeff for Santana loosing one job but finding another at Blomidon Nursery, better then having to stay home!!

Carl for getting out making the first official trip to the cottage!!

Illnesses:  Shelley Fleckenstein (not really an illness) but we heard she broke her little finger - hope it mends quickly!!      Doug Morrison is now at the Grand View Manor.

President Phil

Phil provided an update on Kentville Rotary's Organizational and Board of  Directors chart.  Phil reviewed each category as to why the changes and in line with the Strategic Plan.  The number of members on the Board has not changed just the responsibilities and the committees have been reduced from 21 to 13.  The changes were well thought out and accepted, thank you to the Board for making these adjustments!!   PS this chart was circulated to all members prior to the meeting, if you did not get one please let President Phil know.

Financial update - Kelly Ells shared that Kentville Rotary is in good financial shape for this year.  Our revenues were in prior to the existing Covid 19 shut down.  We are also saving money as future planned events are now cancelled, ie) Rural Urban, School Breakfast program on hold, Charter night postponed, student exchange etc.  We have transferred some of those funds to the Food Banks and we did make a $5,000 contribution to the Valley Hospital Foundation in the making of non surgical Masks (10,000).  Membership fees will remain at existing level for the new Rotary Year 2020-21.   There is some thought and planning for a new fund raising event.

ADG Heather Hennigar brings us greetings from the District.  Most clubs are doing Zoom meetings and for Heather this is a plus as she can join in at any meeting without having to travel.

Heather shared a few things that other clubs are doing, Middleton had a BBQ for seniors, New Minas now has more members participating in meetings through Zoom, Bridgewater won the District "Puppy" contest,  Mud Creek has reinstated the "Toonie" Draw,  Wolfville club still has the Blood donation services challenge (Rick has sent members details in a separate email),  Yarmouth and Lunenburg are keeping busy with their local projects and remember Louisa and the District team have the regular Thursday morning 10am get together with interesting guests,  via Zoom of course!

Committee updates:
