December 10th,  2018 = Family Christmas Party -  Fun was had by All - Ho Ho Ho
On Monday December 10th, 2018 the Kentville Rotary Club PWD Committee held the annual Rotary Children’s Christmas Party and this year I was the lead Elf and the Event was held at the Kentville Fire Hall Auditorium. It a was a wonderful event with around 170 adults & children in attendance.

Also, this year the event to be Christmas dinner was catered by the wonderful team from the local Valley SOUP Program. This SOUP Team holds weekly lunches in Middleton, Berwick, Kingston, Wolfville, Canning and Kentville. The Chef and staff can really make a wonderful four-piece Christmas Dinner.

Music for the event was provided by our own Kelly Ells and she mustered a group of Rotary Members to form a pseudo choir and they performed very well. The Auditorium is quite large and younger guests utilized the large area at the back in which they could run around and burn off some steam.  When they were in full force, I found it amazing how active they became, and I am glad they could burn off some steam.

This picture does not give one the true image of the children running in circles, playing a game of tag and giggling in joy. It really made one smile when they came running towards you and then veered off or flew around you, heading back to the other end of the play area. The item that got their attention was the sudden appearance of Santa Claus who joined the event while Kelly played Here Comes Santa Claus. I really believe he found us because of the true excitement of the happy children.

However, the image depicted above with Santa standing by himself did not last very long as once his presence was noted there was a rapid migration from playing in the back to sitting quietly in front of Santa Claus.

I would like to thank the folks at SOUP for a wonderful four course meal, the Rotarians who assisted with the numerous tasks enjoying themselves as they went ahead with their assigned chores and others who worked delivering coffee, tea or water. It should be noted that I did not hear one Bah Humbug during the whole event. I would also like to thank Greg and Paul from the Fire Department for their efforts as well.

A note that I must include is a thank you to the PWD Committee members for making the event so wonderful. In December 2019 we plan to hold our party once again at the Kentville Fire Hall so parents please tell your children that should they want to join us again they should not be naughty, but they must smile and remain nice.
