DESCRIPTION:The Rural Urban Committee has put together a fall tour that cou
 ld become the apple of your eye! On Friday September 25th\, the group will
  meet at Apple Valley Foods\, 14 Calkin Drive\, Kentville at 2:30 pm for a
  tour of the facility.  Find out how a discussion around an apple pie enj
 oyed around the Sarsfield family kitchen table grew into one of the larges
 t pie producers in North America. After the tour at Apple Valley Foods\, t
 he group will head to Red Fox Cider\, 5785 Brooklyn Street\, Grafton\, for
  a tasting and light snacks at 4:00 pm.  Note cost to taste any of the ci
 ders is not included.  Red Fox Cider has 8 ciders on tap.  Flights of 4 
 samples are $10 per flight.  You are welcome to purchase product to take 
 home as well.  Learn about what inspired opening the cidery and their Red
  Sky Appellation cider – one of 8 official appellation ciders in Nova Sc
 otia.  The tour ends at 5:00. There is no fee for this event.  Cider tas
 tings are at your own expense.  Registration is limited to 25 people.  P

 ttee can plan accordingly. About the tour locations: Apple Valley Foods be
 gan with Leonard and Fran Sarsfield’s apple farm\, expanding into a succ
 essful pie company that was eventually sold in 1991. Their son\, Jeff Sars
 field\, revived the family tradition by starting Apple Valley Foods in 199
 9\, partnering with Harlan Bakeries in 2002 to grow its North American bus
 iness. The company\, headquartered in Kentville\, Nova Scotia\, is now a l
 eading North American pie manufacturer and producer of various other baked
  goods and food products\, known for its “homemade” quality pies using
  ingredients from its own orchards and suppliers. Red Fox Cider  The Park
 er family has been growing apples in Nova Scotia for over 200 years. Toda
 y\, they grow a variety of apples including Honeycrisp\, Pazazz\, Ambrosia
 \, Red Prince\, and Cortland. As the farm transitioned to the next generat
 ion of family\, new ideas like Red Fox Cider blossomed. The cider journey 
 started in 2022 with a dream to create something new on the family farm. L
 ike the Red Fox that inspired the name\, they were curious. So\, they star
 ted imagining\, experimenting…and fermenting.  Founder\, Janet Parker g
 ave herself permission to try new things and develop recipes with loads of
  personality and flavour. Janet believes in being bold\, not boring\, and 
 it shines through in every batch. In 2024\, they built a production facili
 ty and tasting room on the farm and have introduced 5 Red Fox Cider variet
 ies to the world. Red Fox Cider is just getting started\, with a plan to k
 eep dreaming up new possibilities to delight cider enthusiasts.
