Interested in Being an Officer or Director?  We Want To Know!
Have you ever wondered how you can make your club better?  Do you have big ideas that you think other members may enjoy?  Have you ever wanted to be President of the Spindletop Rotary Club?  If the answer is "Yes" then don't hesitate another minute.  LET SOMEONE KNOW!!!  Current officers and board members are a great way to communicate your interest in a director or officer position, and serving in this capacity is truly rewarding.  We don't want anyone to feel left out, so if you've got the desire to serve in an officer or director position, we want to hear from you.
Spindletop Rotary Assists with Sleep In Heavenly Peace Build Day
Frigid early morning temperatures would not deter our dedicated Spindletop Rotarians in participating in this month's build day for Sleep In Heavenly Peace.  If you recall, the club was awarded a District Grant to help purchase materials and supplies to help build the beds.  There was a job for everyone, whether it was sanding, drilling, treating the wood or simply handing boards to the next station or carrying and stacking headboards and slats.  Everyone had a good time, but I bet a few naps and more than a few Tylenols were taken....

Callie Summerlin Shares Story of Hope and Inspiration
Callie Summerlin visited the Spindletop Rotary Club on February 11, 2020, and she brought two things that money cannot buy....hope and inspiration.  She shared her story about her time in Guatemala.  International service is something that is desperately needed.  Many club members listened intently as Callie shared how she was able to join an international project by a chance meeting at P.E.T.S and about the work she did while she was in Guatemala.  Callie's story was one of hope and inspiration, and she challenged all Spindletop Rotarians to just show up.  No matter what project it is, no matter how big or small, what you can and cannot do, just by showing up and being there you show how Rotary brings hope to others and connects the world.

Welcome New Rotarians
At our January 21, 2020 meeting, we inducted a new Rotarian!  Please welcome Jenny Mutz to the club!  We are very excited to have you join us!

Sharpen Your Rotary Knowledge - 5 Avenues of Service
Rotary’s Five Avenues of Service are the philosophical and practical framework for the work of this Rotary club.  Don't confuse the Five Avenues of Service with the Six Areas of Focus.

1.  Club Service - involves action a member should take within this club to help it function successfully.

2.  Vocational Service - has the purpose of promoting high ethical standards in businesses and professions, recognizing the worthiness of all dignified occupations, and fostering the ideal of service in the pursuit of all vocations.  The role of members includes conducting themselves and their businesses in accordance with Rotary's principles and lending their vocational skills to club-developed projects in order to address the issues and needs of society.

3.  Community Service - comprises varied efforts that members make, sometimes in conjunction with others, to improve the quality of life of those who live within the club's locality or municipality.

4.  International Service - comprises those activities that members do to advance international understanding, goodwill, and peace by fostering acquaintance with people of other countries, their cultures, customs, accomplishments, aspirations, and problems, through reading and correspondence and through cooperation in all club activities and projects designed to help people in other lands.

5.  Youth Service - recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults through leadership development activities, involvement in community and international service projects, and exchange programs that enrich and foster world peace and cultural understanding.
Sharpen Your Rotary Knowledge - Six Areas of Focus
What are the six areas of focus for Rotary International?  That's an excellent question!  Time to drop a "Rotary Knowledge Bomb."  Rotary's six areas of focus are:

1.  Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
2.  Disease prevention and treatment
3.  Water and sanitation
4.  Maternal and child health
5.  Basic education and literacy
6.  Economic and community development

There you have it!  The six areas of focus for Rotary International.

Deepening our impact by expanding membership is a top priority for us.
