Women in Technology

Speaker: Pat Waters. Fiend of Roseann fellow St. Francis mother, and also BOD of Second Harvest in Santa Cruz County. Roseann calls out the 60Minutes show on Sunday—the scarcity of women in tech workforce. Why are girls so absent? What can be done about it?

Pat is a recruiter. Chief Talent and Resource Officer at Service NOW—9000 employees worldwide. Previously Sr VP for Talent at Linked in .  Also served at Plantronics, Yahoo, Applied Technology, Applied Materials..

Companies on average spend 80% of their funds on talent. Talent is a big differentiator. Regarding Women: pay parity is a big issue. At the macro level—diversity has been around for 40 years, there are policies and practices, but these are very polarizing. which is framed in terms of the other.  Humans are hard-wired to make snap judgments and to respond more favorably to those who are more like themselves.

Inclusion is the active behavior of inviting people in. This can work to mitigate unconscious bias. Inclusion is looking at pay practices. video
