Next Week (12th): Parks & Recreation – Connecting the Community
Jeff Milkes  is proud to serve the Cupertino community as Recreation and Community Services Director since January.  Prior to taking this position in Cupertino, he served as Southeast Services Manager for Portland Parks & Recreation for eleven years. He was responsible for all parks and facilities in east Portland.  He holds both Bachelors and Masters degrees in Parks and Recreation Administration.  Jeff has been married to his wife Tammie for the past 35 years.
Program: Acknowlegment of Greg Jow; Golf Tournament and Beneficiaries
Kathy Nellis began the program by saying how much the club will miss Past President Greg Jow, who recently passed away, and reminding members of some of the many important contributions he made to Cupertino Rotary.  She recalled how he liked to call himself the emperor and start the meets with a gong.  Kathy said that during his 1994-1995 term as president, Greg saw the need for an additional fundraiser as the proceeds from Oktoberfest had peaked.  Hence, Greg started the golf tournament that Cupertino Rotary still puts on every year.  After the tournament began having a designated major beneficiary in 1998, it really took off and has contributed $500,000 to those beneficiaries over the last 20 years.  Last year the golf tournament generated a total of $70,000 with $25,000 going to support the major beneficiary Our Daily Bread and $45,000 supporting the club Avenues of Service.

Kathy then introduced the co-chairs of the golf tournament for this year - Rachelle Sander and Lynn Ching.  Rachelle and Lynn announced that this year the tournament will have two major beneficiaries, West Valley Services and Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley.  They introduced Josh Selo, Executive Director of West Valley Community Services.

Inspiration: Vivian Wong shared a Chinese saying, “if you work hard enough, you can grind an iron bar into a needle.” She recently began learning to play the guzheng, a plucked string instrument with a more than 2,500-year history, even though she had no experience.  She uses this saying to remind herself that she can accomplish her goal of playing the instrument if she puts in enough effort.

Getting on the Weekly Agenda and/or the Weekly Slide Show

If you would like to be on President Judy Wilson's Weekly Agenda please contact  Jerra Rowland by the Sunday night before the meeting. Please email her at jerra95030@mac.com
If you would like to include slides as part of your announcement, please send them to Jerra Rowland well in advance of the meeting, at least 3 to 4 days, and she will be able to include your info in the flow of the meeting  when you are at the microphone for your one minute of fame. This is particularly important for club chairs who want to announce meetings, accomplishments, or details that are better covered with more than a one minute verbal overview. Send Jerra bullet points and she will do the rest.
