Speaker:  Polly Bove  - FUHSD Update

Jeff Moe introduced our Guest Speaker, Polly Bove, who has spent more than 30 years at FUHSD in multiple roles.
Polly provided an update on distance learning in light of COVID.  The district has increased hours of instruction, with support for students struggling with remote learning, and adoption of new learning management system Schoology to streamline communication between students/families and teachers around curriculum, assignments & grades.

Some in-person activities like athletic conditioning have started with all activity being outside, no-contact and with no larger than 12 students. The Fall sports season has been postponed by CIF until Dec./Jan., Public Health guidelines permitting.
Polly went over Measure M, that will be on the November ballot. Measure M was first passed in 2004, as a $98 tax per parcel, bringing in $5 million annually for teacher salaries and academic programs, and is set to expire in two years.

Polly also highlighted several initiatives to get new students on-boarded with Drive-by distribution of books and picture IDs with dedicated staff during orientation week. Several safety measures with shields, MERV13 filters for all HVACs.  A tricky problem is handling air circulation for COVID and the smoke from wildfires as COVID requires outside air coming in, while the wildfires require shutting off external air.  Polly was glad to have distance learning in place!!
