“What a wonderful world!!” Suresh Balsubramani shared some of his experiences that reinforced what a wonderful world it is – when he taught 6 orphans, Cab driver in Japan who refused to take his fare, bought his meal on his arrival to USA
Inspiration:
Terry Sturtevant shared her stories of her Uncle Bob in the Navy and his experience at Pearl Harbor. Like fables there was a moral, after, sometimeds when it doesn’t feel right, don’t forge ahead, wait and circle until the path is clear.
Snowflake review
PP Judy Wilson shared highlights from the Operation Snowflake event and encouraged everyone to check it out next year. It’s a heartwarming event.

Our esteemed CFO Jeff Moe gave us an excellent review of the budget process for charitable giving and club expenses and our current financial picture. Highlights include this year is a record for charitable and some excess funds available due to COVID continuing to affect our meeting. Check out his full presentation here.
Personal Talk – Nancy Chan
Nancy gave us a bit of information on her past- her parents were from China, she was born in the San Francisco, and attended both Berkley and Stanford; her many business ventures- physical therapy, Pilates clinic, sport medicine for golfers, and real estate investing; family- three beautiful daughters, and hobbies- hiking, travel and helping young adults with selective mutism. She is really looking forward to meeting Rotarians and participating in giving back to the community. We are all excited to get to know Nancy better.

Speaker of the Day – Randall Weiss – Workings of the San Jose Symphony
Jim Gibson introduced Randy Weiss, our speaker of the day. Check out the video of his presentation at our meeting here.
Randy started off by playing a medley on the violin. Randy’s career as a violinist started around the time he was in 2nd grade, and was enrolled in the Suzuki program in 1962.
He described the role of concert master, assistant concert master and how the conductor works with the orchestra.
Jim and the audience had some questions for Randy –
What does a concert master do? - The first chair violinist who tunes the orchestra before the concert. They are the head of the string section, and has some administrative duties, and is also responsible for bowings of the string section.
What to listen for? - How long or short an articulation is.. for example, longer notes sound more dreamy or romantic.
What are the rewards of being a violinist - Get to work with really great colleagues and his life has been enriched, and also gets to play the world’s greatest literature.
