Hello Fellow Trailblazers,

Our first hike, led by Jean Gasperini, info:
  • Sunday, Sept. 26
  • Meet at 9 am in Monta Vista Rec Center parking lot, corner of Voss Ave. and Foothill Blvd to carpool, parking can be limited, so carpooling is strongly recommended.
  • The hike is at El Corte De Madero Creek Open Space Preserve  https://www.openspace.org/preserves/el-corte-de-maderacreek
  • 35 minute drive to Skeggs Point Parking lot on Skyline Blvd.  
  • Tafoni and Fir Trail, rated moderate difficulty
  • 4.8 miles, 833 elevation total, trail is mostly shaded
  • We will park at Skeggs Point Parking Area (1 mile past main preserve lot)
Parking landmarks:
  • Pass Alice's Restaurant on Skyline Blvd.
  • 2.7 miles on left: main El Corte De Madera parking lot with bathrooms
  • 1.1 mile on right: We'll park at Skeggs Point parking lot near trailhead
  • cross Skyline, find gate on left side, trailhead is through gate; this adds .8 mile
Other info:
  • Bathrooms are at the main preserve parking lot, 1 mile BEFORE Skeggs Point.  Stop here to use the bathroom before and after hiking as needed.
  • As experienced hikers you know to bring water, hat, sunscreen, trail snack, hiking poles, etc.
  • Please be aware of your surroundings and fellow hikers.  
  • This trail is open to mountain bikers, most bikers are responsible and will announce themselves, but be vigilant and ready to call out a warning if bikers are approaching.
