Luisa Breen, Director of Social Services for North Branford spoke to the club about the needs of the community in our town. She highlighted the several progams that are available to people. However, many do not avail themselves of these programs due to a lack of information, or misplaced pride. In particular, she spoke about the working poor - people who have serious needs but earn too much to qualify for state or federal assistance programs. She manages a Community Assistance Fund to help those that fall between the cracks. This community program is funded exclusively through private donations - that is no tax dollars.
