Center for Development in Central America
Apr. 25, 2018
Nicaragua is the third poorest country in the Americas. In Nicaragua, we work with poor communities, helping them to improve people’s lives. The Center for Development in Central America (CDCA) is a project of the Jubilee House Community, Inc., (JHC), a non-profit organization. It has 501(c)(3) status in the U.S. and International Mission status in Nicaragua. Our goal is to work in partnership with communities and cooperatives to facilitate empowerment. This enables them to find their own solutions to the problems they identify and connects them with resources to solve their problems. Our job is not to tell others what to do, but to first listen to the needs and then respond as we are able. The CDCA’s mission is to enable communities to become self-sufficient, sustainable, democratic entities. |

CT Cancer Foundation
Aug. 08, 2018
The Connecticut Cancer Foundation Against Cancer (CCF) is a non-profit with a 501(c)(3) designation. CCF is committed to reducing the burden of cancer for Connecticut cancer patients and their families. Many cancer patients and families are suddenly confronted with insurmountable bills at a time when focusing on healing is critical to their recovery. CCF is able to quickly and compassionately ease their burden with direct financial assistance. CCF has found that even small gestures of support can be the jumpstart a patient needs to fight back against their illness. CCF is a unique organization in Connecticut that provides direct financial assistance to Connecticut cancer patients for rent/mortgage, utilities, car payments, medical co-pays, food, medications, and more. Patients are referred to CCF via a network of oncology social workers at Connecticut hospitals and cancer centers. Applicants are thoroughly screened by healthcare professionals who verify the financial need. Resources are provided with dignity and privacy, helping patients maintain self-respect while lessening the stress that may inhibit their recovery. For the past 30 years, CCF has quietly granted over $5 million to more than 6,000 Connecticut families dealing with the financial hardship that often comes along with a cancer diagnosis. In addition, the foundation has donated more than $2 million to support ongoing cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. |
