Oro Valley Rotary Club
General Information at 4/8/17
  • Rotary International is the largest service organization in the world with about 1.2 million members in 34,000 clubs in about 200 countries
  • Its motto is “Service Above Self”
  • Founded in 1992, the Oro Valley Rotary Club currently has about 40 members. It offers 2 different meeting times and locations to meet differing needs:
    • The breakfast club meets at the Oro Valley Hospital Classroom A every Thursday morning at 6:45 AM. Meetings are usually over by 8 AM.
    • The evening club meets on the 2nd & 4th Mondays at 6 PM. These meetings usually last about 1 hour. Half the meetings take place at the administrative offices of Nakoma Sky next to Trader Joe on Oracle at the corner of Magee. The other half of the meetings are at restaurants that participate in the Taste of Oro Valley event. Check the speaker list on the home page for the meeting locations.
    • Even though 2 meeting times & places exist, the club operates as one organization in raising money and participating in projects.
    • The dues structure depends on your choice of membership.  The breakfast clubs costs $150/ quarter. The evening club dues are $75/quarter and no food or beverage is provided.
  • Breakfast meetings most often include interesting speakers and are designed to be both enlightening and fun. They also provide an excellent opportunity for networking with community leaders. Evening club meetings at restaurants offer an opportunity to support these local businesses that have supported the Taste of Oro Valley.
  • Our major fund raising event of the year is called “A Taste of Oro Valley”.  It features many local restaurants, wineries, breweries, live music, and gaming.  Profits made from this event fund the service projects the club does throughout the year.
  • Examples of some of our local projects include supporting Project Graduation; providing 5 scholarships to graduating high school students who plan to attend a community college; sending 4 high school students to a Rotary leadership camp; sponsoring a Rotoract Club at a local high school; supporting an Odyssey of the Mind team; painting houses for Habitat for Humanity; assisting a local food bank; providing dictionaries to local 3rd graders & cleaning two sections of highway. Examples of international projects include supporting a high school science lab in Mozambique; providing emergency shelters to areas hit by natural disasters; supporting the microcredit program in Sonora, Mexico; supporting a literacy project in Guatemala and hosting foreign exchange students.
