Program
Introduced by Mike Silva, we welcomed Josh, Executive Director of Breakthrough Twin Cities, which serves its mission to get disadvantaged kids into college and into breakthrough opportunities.
When considering the normal vs. “weird” versions of the presentation, Josh selected the “weird” for us, which included an introductory game of telephone Pictionary.
Rotating drawing and interpretations in one sentence around the table, we witnessed some of the best drawings known to humanity and a great time was had by all. Working within 5 eligibility criteria to break barriers to college for disadvantaged students.
They create skillsets for college success and strive to remove the abruptness of transitioning to college for a base of students which are first generation college enrollees 80% of the time. Joining the organization at age 12, students develop these skills for the next 6 years, culminating in advanced preparedness for their college experience.
They also run a 6-week summer program, programs during the school year, college counseling, and mentor-teacher opportunities. Please visit their website for more information: https://www.breakthroughtwincities.org/.
