The Board of Directors met last week but no actions taken.   District Conference set for May 17 at 10 AM.  Visioning session on April 30 at 5:15 with a District representative.  Plymouth Rotary fundraiser on April 6 to fund additional CPR training.   Art raffle continues painting.   Thanks to Char Murphy for hosting St. Patrick's Day social last week.  

 

Mary Tamborino announced a Rotary initiative around human trafficking and an awareness program aimed at truckers, Truckers Against Trafficking.

 

Frank Babka announced an upcoming program at SCSU involving women in healthcare and agriculture with speaker Tom Emmer; all club members invited to attend.

 

Chris Rosenlund updated the club on the Foundation's annual fundraising progress and thanked the generous donors and to remind members of their pledges.

 

 

Cathy Carlson returned from vacation with a vengeance, winning the matching numbers, but not selecting the correct cards.

Chris Rosenlund presented Therese Kuvaas with her first Paul Harris award.

 

 

 

 

 

Ms. Hammond described her own sudden hearing loss in one ear after a church event and how it forced her out as a professional in pharmacology.   She stated that 1 in 5 people over the age of 12 have a measurable hearing loss.   She described the personal, emotional and societal costs of hearing loss, including the isolation it brings to those who suffer from such loss.  After a short course on the structure of the ear, Ms. Hammond focused her presentation on why, and how, to protect your hearing from "noise induced hearing loss."  Such loss, with some thought, is wholly preventable.   She touched on using outside ear protection and earplugs, earbuds, concerts, hunting, balloons and the working environment.   No human "gets used to loud sounds."   She stated that humans do not regenerate ear structures to reverse hearing loss, like fish and birds do.
