Invocation

Jacob M. -  a time of reflection in the season of Rosh Hashana - Psalm 27

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.

One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple.

For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.

And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the Lord.

Program

David Senior, Executive Director, and Becky McNattin, MSW from Relate Counseling Center in Minnetonka

Relate just celebrated their 50th Anniversary. David is a former executive with Target Corp and Cargill.

Becky started as an intern and was named 2018 Minnesota Social Worker of the Year
Relate Counseling Center is a not for profit community counseling center based in Minnetonka whose goal is to achieve Positive Mental Health outcomes for children and families.

Started in St Luke’s basement 50 years ago.  Over 10,000 lives impacted last year
Their BOD are from all walks of life, a testimony to the spirit of volunteerism in the area.
Relate was named a Star Tribune “Top 150 Company” in 2018 for employee engagement.  They are designated as an essential community provider – no one is turned away based on their ability to pay for services.  They received the “Great Non-Profit” designation and are a Community Reinvestment Act institution.

They are the only full-service, non-profit, mental health and chemical prevention treatment provider in the western twin Cities. They have 73 total staff, of which 65 are multi-discipline, post graduate educated clinicians. They serve 9 school districts and 4 area food shelves with mental health resources. They have clinicians co-located in 50 school facilities.

Very efficient in their operations – 90% of revenue re-invested in programs. 80-85% of patients are stabilized or improve their mental health issues.  90% growth in clients served in last 4 years. 65% of those treated are children and their families

Their goal is to build resiliency in their clients. They look for ACES – Adverse Childhood Experiences (ie divorce; drug abuse; domestic violence; poverty; etc).

In an average school class of 30 students:
1 has 4 ACES
1 has 3 ACES
3 have 2 ACES
6 with 1 ACES

Between ’99 and 2016, the suicide rate in MN jumped 41%. 2nd leading cause of death ages 10-24 yrs.  Becky told a story about a patient, “Owen”. Had 8 ACES
Symptoms included intense anxiety, sleeplessness, inattention at school
Also had an issue of food insecurity at home – didn’t know where his next meal was coming from.  Treatment included creating a positive relationship with a caring adult; taught calming strategies. Results included better sleep patterns and a notable increase in class participation.

Most clients come from personal referrals. Relate takes all insurance plans and does not turn away anyone based on ability to pay.

Hopkins School District is initiating Relate’s Mindfullness Classes for students
