Mark Magney - the pizza night at his house has been postponed until next spring. It’s a fundraiser for our
Club. $25/person and $50/couple. The date will be around late May 2025.
Sara E. - the speakers committee is looking for a few members to help find and decide on our weekly speakers. Pete; our former member Carolyn Anderson is still making wigs for cancer patients. A fundraiser is coming up. See Pete for more details.

Erica Lotze is here today to receive a $2000 check from our Club, and remind us about Reel Hope.
Foster care is a big need, and it’s difficult to have the child and the family meet prior.
Reel Hope spends 12-15 hours filming each child, for the family to see their voice, interests, and personalities. It has made a huge increase in placement. Great and important work, Erica.

Program
Today’s Speaker; Cathy Heying with The Lift Garage
Cathy is the Founder and Director of The Lift, a place for people with car problems to get repairs at low cost.
Before that, with degrees in Social Work and Pastoral Ministry, Cathy has worked chiefly at St. Stephens in Mpls since 1997. Besides the myriad of needs in housing, food, and safety, she discovered the critical importance of operable cars for work. With no transportation, the job and money are at risk. Trains and buses just aren’t enough for some jobs.
Cathy saw a need for low cost car repairs, and to keep people’s lives complete. “somebody has to do something” She took a big leap to enroll at Dunwoody for a degree in car repair. In a word, it was HARD. She was about to quit until her ‘burly and loud’ instructor said, “Don’t quit, I’ve got you” With his help, she graduated and started The Lift.
With this early and almost failing dream, The Lift Garage now has 5 bays, 16 mechanics and serves hundreds of people in keeping them mobile. She has met with so many people that fill in the gaps with supplies and other expertise. To date, they are a $2 million business paying competitive wages for trained mechanics.
They seek funding for most of their expenses. $1.7 million last year!
Cathy feels that everyone wants to be a giver; with her affordable repairs and attitude, her customers’ jobs are more secure, and moreover, their lives and community involvement remain whole.
Cathy says her Christian faith and the need to serve others has always been her strong motivation. Beyond that, she compared herself to Rotary. One person can only do so much, but there is almost no limit what many can do together.
Cathy, your story and service for a lifetime is one of our highlight talks and Rotary experiences today. Thank you for all that you give back. You can definitely wear Rotary’s Service Above Self motto with all that you have done and continue to do.
