Jennifer S. - we have 5 of 6 volunteers for an ICA event at CUB Foods on Hwy 7 and 101 on Nov 4.We will hand out Turkey coupons for customers to buy turkeys for families in need for TG.
Free Bikes for Kids will happen on either Nov 12 or Nov 19. Brooklyn Center location
Mike G. - Nominations for our Secretary Elect position are asked for, and then a vote soon. The recent Board meeting was well attended. Our Hoagies Rotary logo tables are coming soon. There is also a Foundation Board position open. Looking for a volunteers, and Mike will appoint one for a 2-year term ending in 2024.
Camp Enterprise is upcoming, look for interested HS students.
The Jazz Band concert for next week is postponed. Meet in our same new room next week.
Ann W. - she and the Fundraiser committee gathered for a photo behind the Big $40,000 check that we netted from the Links and Libations event. Congrats to Ann and the whole club for all the efforts.

Scouting Presentation
Scouting Presentation; our own Cub and Tiger Scouts, Noland and Bennett Rundquist, pitched their fundraising plan. Wreaths and Popcorn sales will go towards their Scout camping programs.
When asked, many members raised their hands as formers scouts, even several Eagle Scouts in the room.
Vantage Students
Just a few words about the Vantage students here today. Caroline, Alex, Liam, Hagen, Laura, Mark, Robbie and Jackson are all juniors or seniors. Mtka HS is the ONLY Vantage program in the state.
These students take AP classes in several areas, and also visit businesses and immerse themselves with the community. They choose a major area (marketing, health, legal) that interests them, and all have all have a 1:1 mentor to talk with. You talk about Building Responsible Youth!

Mac H. - for the 8 Mtka HS Vantage students here today. Mac is a 1969 Mtka graduate, a long time ago, or so he was told by a younger grad.
Chris R. - for reaching our $40K goal, and comparing that to our $15K net not that long ago. We are knocking on the door of $50K, with Summerfest and Polio funding.

Program
Speaker today; Kayla Thomas with the REEL HOPE PROJECT.
Kayla is a Social Worker, and joined Reel Hope sometime after their start in 2016. They make videos of foster program youth who are in line for adoption into a permanent family.
Stories change the world, and it is much more effective to see and hear these kids on video. REEL shares these stories with churches, state and county agencies.
There are 10,000 kids in foster care, and 1000 cannot return to their birth homes. REEL is a bridge between foster care and permanent adoption.
The statistics are daunting; 80% of prisoners, 20% of homeless, 66% of pregnancies before age 21 are with kids who were in foster care. REEL has made 266 videos, featured 314 kids, and have placed 147 kids with
‘forever families’. They double the chance of making a permanent adoption.
Also, REEL helps to prevent the need for foster care by helping families in trouble before it comes to separation. Sometimes the parent(s) just need time to get back to a good place.
We can support REEL HOPE by Adoption, invite and tell others to hear about REEL, and finally, $$. $1200 will pay for 2 videos and interviews with these foster kids.
Thank you very much for the excellent work you at Reel Hope all do, Kayla. It’s truly a gift to our community. A wonderful presentation.

Letter from Tim Mulcrone (9/6/22)
Dear Michael Glover,
Thanks to the many Clubs of our District who made last year’s polio fundraising successful. I hope our Clubs will make similar plans this year to earmark that $1500 for polio eradication from whatever club fundraising is done this year.
In July, a case of vaccine derived polio type 2 was detected in the US, just weeks after the virus was detected in wastewater samples in the UK. Polio’s return to areas that had been unaffected for decades, is a stark reminder that as long as polio exists anywhere, it remains a threat everywhere. The re-emergence of polio can be explained by many factors, including vaccine hesitancy and a global drop in childhood vaccination rates. But it’s clear today that no matter the location, anyone not vaccinated against polio is at risk. To prevent further cases of paralysis, high vaccination coverage and robust disease surveillance are key. Fully funding the 2022-2026 Global Polio Eradication Initiative is the best way to protect people everywhere into the future, keeping polio from spreading across borders and around the world. Until we eradicate polio worldwide, it will always be just a plane ride away.
As I have been for the last ten years, I remain at your service for speaking and supporting club efforts to engage members around our flagship initiative, global eradication of polio.
