Program
Speaker today; Imran Jani on Knowing your Muslim Neighbor.
Imran spent time today discussing the Muslim (Islam) culture and faith. He came to U.S. in 2025 from India and has been here ever since.
He talks to many groups to educate us on the building blocks and clear any misunderstandings about the Muslim world.
Some of the points he brought to us today.
There are 1.9 billion Muslims, and it’s a very ancient faith.
Islam is a monotheistic religion, Allah is the name of the one true God.
There are many similarities between Muslim and Jewish cultures and beliefs. They also believe in the prophets and angels, revealed writings and the Day of Judgment.
The pillars of Islam are 5; One God, prayer 5x/day, fasting, especially at Ramadan, giving back
A percentage of your income, and a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in your lifetime.
There are some strict rules, i.e., pork free diet, no alcohol, marriage customs, and clothing.
Women actually have more rights than men.
A Jihad is sometimes thought to be a ‘holy war’, but is much more about the struggle to make yourself a better person.
Thank you Imran for this very enlightening talk on a topic that most of us know little about.
The fact that we are much more the same than different, even in our faith, was important to hear.
