Nancy Avarado from Bricks to Bread; our speaker
Randy Benovitz; First lady in 1989 to join rotary Club #1 in Chicago. They had 400 members. Her and father ran a jewelry business. Eventually moved to Gulf Port, MS and joined the Rotary club there. Several years ago moved back to Minnetonka to take care of her parents and is now checking out Rotary clubs.

Tony N. - Tony N is reinstituting the Rotarian of the Year and Alexa Rundquist received the plaque, very well deserved for what she does for our club & District 5950!!

Chris Rosenlund: 2023 we had $28,400 from sponsorships. So far we are at $22,600…sell, sell, sell! So far only 11 registered golfers, that are not on a sponsorship team.

Bob H. - last night was National night Out, they had 50+ neighbors and when talking to an Edina policeman, the officer said they are short police like everywhere.

Alexa R. - $2 for Scott and her Mom’s 73rd Birthday. Audrey was very happy that Minnie Winnie was returned in one piece from Chris R.
Chris R. - family vacation at Lake Vermillion and returning Minnie Winnie in one piece! Our license was approved at Mtka. City council mtg. Patty Acomb and 2-25 others won an award!

Program
Tony Newman introduced Nancy Avarado who is the founder of Bricks to Bread. A nonprofit that is empowering entrepreneurship in Women in Costa Rico by helping them build brick fireplaces/ovens, so they can bake and cook. They provide the fireplaces to individuals so they can cook for families, individuals so they can have a business and groups they can “community bake.” They discovered most of the existing ovens were not ventilated and causing some health issues. The ovens take about 6 days to make.
This is their link, that does an amazing job (a lot better then I can do) explaining their past, present and future expansion goals.
I was impressed that once they have made an oven, they keep in contact several times/ year, the “bakers” have a 3 year commitment/contract and that they have had 3 yearly conferences where the ladies can get together. For many, this is the first time they have ever left their village. Also that the St. Louis Park club has gone down to Costa Rico and made several of the ovens.
